As a final year student I have automatically qualified for FI Concession for FAC3703 & FAC3704.
I received this confirmation in January 2020 already.
Today is exactly one week before my first exam (3 June 2020).
My timetable has still not been updated by the Exam Dept as mentioned by the Lecturer.
I have been basically harassing the Lecturer for the past two weeks. Mrs Lourensa Botha has really been trying to help, but she only has an email address for the Exam Dept.
The exam dept phone is not manned by anyone.
We have had our exam dates changed twice already meaning 3 different exam dates.
Without notice Unisa has changed some exams to a Saturday.
As a Seventh-day Adventist member, these Saturday exams infringe on my fundamental right to freedom of religion as inshrined by the Constitution.
As per Biblical instruction , from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset is time for me to spend with my Creator.
This is time where I cease all work and entertainment. This would include ceasing any studying of non-Biblical topics.
I'm very disappointed in Unisa for infringing on my rights.
The reason why I chose to study through Unisa is because all their exams are during the week.
All other Universities make provision for Students who observe the seventh-day Sabbath of the Lord.
Unisa has never provided alternative tutorial classes for those of us who can't attend the Saturday classes due to religious beliefs.
So this discrimination has always been around. It has just reached a peak now.
We get could away with not attending classes on a Sabbath, but unfortunately we will fail if we don't write the exam on a Saturday.

It is not fair that if a student fails to write their exams they will have to write in October /November . So much time is invested during preparation for exams so Unisa must reconsider their decision
I fully support this petition all the way
