We, the students of this school, respectfully request that fidget tools be allowed in classrooms under reasonable guidelines.
Fidget tools can help many students focus, stay calm, and manage stress during lessons. For students with attention difficulties, anxiety, or sensory needs, small fidgets such as stress balls, silent spinners, or putty can improve concentration and learning. When used properly and quietly, these tools do not disrupt the class and can actually help students stay engaged.
Many teachers and educational experts recognize that small hand movements can support focus and self-regulation. Instead of banning all fidgets, the school could create simple rules—such as allowing only quiet fidgets and requiring students to use them responsibly.
Allowing fidgets with guidelines would support different learning needs and help students succeed in class while still maintaining a respectful classroom environment.
We kindly ask the school administration to reconsider the current ban and allow appropriate fidget tools in classrooms.
Sincerely,
The Students of Thurston Middle School LBUSD
