Co-op Shops un-suspend Adrian Weekes

Shame on you Co op this man should be comended.

Look at what you get for doing you job, going above and beyond and protecting your stores inventory! Shame on you Co-Op!!!

The guy is a hero!

Whilst I agree with you in theory, my moral conscience screams 'The shoplifter left his rights at the door'...

the chap was just doing his job- he is a star and well loved- he is a well respected and passionate member of the community - I will say that again community...unlike the little idiot who was stealing from you!! for gods sake.

What a sorry state this country is in when the employee is suspended for doing the right thing while the shoplifter will probably get compensation.

This guy is a legend in the store. How can this be fair when he was just trying to stop someone from stealing. The guys a hero not a villian. Coop should be praising him!

At the end of the day theft is wrong. Maybe he needs "re-training" but he definitely deserves his job back.

I'll sign, but what he did could have back-fired. Co-op can't be seen to be condoning what he did else it might happen again and go wrong for a fellow employee or the shop lifter. I'd tweak the request from 'un-suspend' to 'put through training' or similar - that would be showing respect for the employee and the criminal (they have rights too). This is not about right and wrong rather about policy and compliance. I'm all for using initiative but employees sign up to policy and should respect them. What if the policy was put in place because of a previous incident where an employee was harmed due to doing what Adrian did?

If he breached company policy then the policy is wrong!

I can understand why Co-op felt they needed to do something in response to the photo that was circulated, as employees shouldn't be restraining people if they haven't been trained (people can die from being restrained incorrectly). However, Adrian is good at his job and I can only assume had the best intentions while stopping the shoplifter. Either make all of your employees aware that they are not allowed to restrain customers if they are stealing, or give them the proper training so they are able to.

There is a simple difference between right and wrong. Aidan did the right thing. This guy did the wrong thing three times in one day. Never should have been suspended in the first place.

Adrian was just doing his job. He caused no harm.

An employee should not be suspended for looking after the interest of their employer. Citizens arrest require for the culprit to be detained.

I cannot believe this has happened, from looking at the photo he just detained him until the police arrived, reasonable force i would say. This lad has stole from this store a number of times. The staff member has worked there for years and is loyal, he should have never been treated like this by the Co-Op.

A man actually doing a good job

Heard he has been reinstated-though think it was a kneejerk reaction of the coop to suspend him in the first place & sends out the wrong message to people about what the coop is supposed to be about & also to shoplifters that it's ok to steal-which is incorrect! He's also an employee with good repartee with the customers; equally commendable! Vxx

Pleasant happy man just doing his job. If he was in the wrong tackling a thief then we could all walk in and take what we want.
