We, the undersigned members of the University of Maryland community, feel that the fear of university sanctions cause doubt and/or hesitation about whether to call for emergency services in situations involving fellow students in life threatening situations due to alcohol consumption is a problem on our campus.
Furthermore, we feel that the implementation of a Good Samaritan policy which would shield students from university based punishments in these situations would help in correcting this problem by alleviating these fears.
Seeing this level of support reminds me exactly why I started this fight after my own roommate was terrified to call for help. The momentum shows that my peers prioritize human lives over university politics. We are finally building the pressure needed to force a change in these outdated policies.

Please make this happen. My friend was terrified to call 911 when she should have because she didnt want to get in trouble with the school. This is insane.

Too many people are scared to call for help because they think they will get suspended. Just fix this so kids stop dying from being afraid to reach out.

I hope the admin actually listens for once. Losing a student is way worse than whatever disciplinary action they are so worried about.

ABOUT TIME. Keeping kids safe should be priority number 1 over some stupid policy about drinking.
