We, the undersigned members of the University of Maryland community, feel that the fear of university sanctions cause doubt and/or hesitation about whether to call for emergency services in situations involving fellow students in life threatening situations due to alcohol consumption is a problem on our campus. Furthermore, we feel that the implementation of a Good Samaritan policy which would shield students from university based punishments in these situations would help in correcting this problem by alleviating these fears.
