UEA staff car park charges are unfair and need to be reviewed

The UEA should take a look at the NNUH parking costs, they seem a lot fairer than ours

Pay rises have been so small and now parking is expensive for everyone but especially for low paid workers. There should be more of a difference between low earners and high earners. Also no more rises. Thank you.

I agree the price of parking has gone up and up and is not fair as most of us haver very little choice but to come by car. We live in a rural county and unlike London public transport outside of Norwich is expensive, slow and stops in the early evening. Even more of an issue is the carpark being full. If you have to go to the doctors etc.on the way to work there is no point even trying to get back to work before lunch time as there is nowhere to park. This is ludicrous.

The parking situation is pretty desperate.

I am suffering financially owing to being downgraded and experiencing a 20% pay cut. Stress levels are also raised by worrying about whether I will be able to find a parking space or not.

Have not been able to park since September, very hard for me as I have to drop my little of at school before I travel to work, hence I don't get here till 09.30. All the spaces have then gone and now Blackdale has closed I can't park anywhere at all. Because of this I park where ever I can 'fit' and now I have had several warnings from the traffic people here. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!!!!!!

Seems to me that people that work part time should be charged according to their actual earnings NOT their potential full time earnings.

My hours of work are 10am-6pm and the lack of parking most DEFINATLEY affects me. There is simply no-where to park on the main car park so I am forced on to the overfolow car park on the field behind the Blackdale building. Since the overflow car park has been closed to enable the grass to recover, it has been impossible to park anywhere! Something needs to be done!

STAFF ARE CUT / STUDENTS INCREASE IN NUMBERS / WORK IS MORE DEMANDING AND WAGES ARE SHRINKING. OUR REWARD IS CHARGED FOR COMING TO WORK. IS THIS THE WAY TO REWARD EMPLOYEES?

I don't have a choice about driving to work. Park and ride is going totally out of my way. It has become very dangerous on campus trying to find parking and fighting for spaces with everyone else let alone being charged for this privledge!

Ok, but please stop basing real world decisions on the green ramblings of the minority. The rest of us need to lead our lives, and like it or not many of us need to use cars because there is no viable alternative. Cycling is dangerous, impractical and daft, buses are expensive, slow and unreliable.

It's complex, because driving is a big polluter, but as has been said, the charges really hit lower paid staff, & the difficulties parking are experienced most by carers & part time staff who can't get here early to get a space.

Having to park a 15 minute walk away from the office and still being charged the same amount as others, is unfair, particularly to part-time staff. I find this situation exposes the University's 'Family Friendly' veneer.

The parking charges are very unfair -it was OK when it was a £1 a day and free when all the students went home for summer - but when you do not live in Norwich and have to travel in form 20 miles awayand then cannot get parked it's a Joke and I do car share with my partner and young son who is at UEA Nursery - so three of us share but still not eligible for car share as we are at the same address.

It is really timely that something is being done about parking at UEA, first rates are way too expensive, second staff car park is too small as somebody else mentioned, you have to arrive before 8 am otherwise it's full. the main car park is a bit better but if you arrive after 8:55 than you have no options but to park miles away, not acceptable

Whilst I appreciate as a green site parking is to be discouraged many people cannot easily get to work here without driving and do not work standard hours to enable them to car share. There must be many lost hours currently in people arriving late due to parking issues so to increase charges in view of the current situation is very poor.

Surely penalising some people who earn a bit more is also unfair. Why should some of us have to subsidise others? The best solution is to charge an affordable flat rate (leaving aside the argument that we shouldn't have to pay to park at our place of work!).

What about a scheme which helps car drivers who could pick up people (like non car users) on the way to the UEA and drop off on the way home. Perhaps they could use the car share bays that remain empty. You can't get parked on the West Car Park unless you get in before 8pm!!

I sign this petition for the UEA car parking. first of all, from my previous university, there was dedicated car park for staff. second charging was based on CO2 emission from your car. i used to pay £14 cpm. here in UEA for the same car, i pay £40 cpm and there is no dedicated space, i have to go to blackdale parking area and i have to buy a scratch card too.

I'm aware that parking is always an issue for campus universities. Most other places I have been have structured payment scales based on salary which seems to be absent here.
