Petition to Save the International Center at UCSD

The International Center is the heart and soul of the international community at UCSD. We urge the administration to make a plan for a NEW international center at the current location.

I concur with the purposes of this petition. I am a retiree with 32 years of service on the campus.

The importance of the International Center to UCSD international students, U.S. students studying abroad, faculty and staff cannot be measured in just a few words. It is vital to the internationalization of the campus.

SAVE the International Center! It is vital for our local and foreign students!!

The International Center is a campus institution that has traditionally acted as a bridge between the community and the university. This is where local citizens get to know the students and become involved with the campus. Many friendships have been formed across cultural, educational, and even age groups. Please do not demolish this facility until you have plans in place for renovation or new construction. The local community is still mourning the loss of the craft center, another meeting place for "town and gown".

We really need international Centre and all the places for our family programs. Otherwise where should we go , our family member who works for UCSD will in big trouble if their spouses have no place to go, let alone work hard for the Uni. As their families can't be settle down, that would be a big distraction for the stuff who works for UCSD!

It is important that UCSD immediately address the need for a plan for the continuation of the Center that will meet the needs of the UCSD family of diversity.

I'm a UCSD alumna and the international center had a significant impact during my time as an undergraduate

Here is a quote by Chancellor Khosla from the LA Times describing the UCSD community and student life: "We built our [research] reputation really fast," Khosla said. "It's like an aggressive, career-oriented person who in the process of achieving something forgot that he had a family. So when he has wealth and fame, the kids are not connected back to him or her." ... Dismantling the International Center would only serve as another significant blow to community and student life.

Do not tear it down without a permanent plan to replace the International Center.

International Center is the core part of the memories of mine and many other local and foreign students at UCSD. Instead of being brutally demolished, she deserves a better way of being recognised and acknowledged! Please be considerate and take some more well-thought actions toward this place. Please UCSD!

I have been with UCSD over 50 years and have seen how the International Center has served not only UCSD students both graduate and undergraduate but also been such an asset for new and visiting faculty and their families. How could one minimize its importance and not plan ahead. Talk of a new International Center has been ongoing for several years; now is the time for immediate action. The international center is a very important institution for international scholars like myself.

There needs to be a place where international students can gather and connect

I support the ICenter and I think the school administration should come up a plan before demolishing the international center. As an international student myself, it is very important for me to have the ICenter running in ONE LOCATION. Any delay in the process of visa related documents could lead to potentially bad situation for us.

The benefits of an International Center on any university campus are obvious. I hope there is, indeed, a plan to relocate this important entity at UCSD.

Please do not close this great place and institution. I arrived last December at UCSD and I was amazed by the great support, integration help and many activities of the IC. The benefits of an International Center on any university campus are obvious. I hope there is, indeed, a plan to relocate this important entity at UCSD.

I am appalled that there is no plan for reconstituting the Center as a unit - it is a VITAL part of the UCSD community!

Please do not demolish the international center until ALL of the activities that take place there have a new home in a single location
