The International Center has been here a long time. I had hoped that it would continue be here even longer. Please do not close it.

College is a place where ideas are exchanged, developed, grown, and discussed. This center is EXACTLY the type of facility that universities should be expanding, not closing. As UCSD expands and grows athletically, please do not neglect the missions of a university to provide growth and development culturally, intellectually, and academically as well

For decades, the International Center has been the focal point and home-away-from-home for international visitors as well as for US-students wanting to study abroad.
Why demolish and disperse this unique Center without an appropriate alternative being in place?
What is the rush?
If the International Center has to be demolished for structural reasons,, why not re-build it in the same location?

Seems to be a hasty decision that really needs more discussion before any further action is taken.

If we must part with the International Center - so be it. However, it is unconscionable there be no immediate plans for an agreement on a future Center. This is a key part of our place in international education - there must be an agreement concerning a future facility for these programs on the campus.

the petition states my own reasons for wishing to save the International Center. As someone who is now an Emerita in the History Department and who taught European history and international gender studies, I have also worked as an education abroad advisor for a number of terms. I know how important the international community is...and also how little many of us know about it. We need to keep the center OPEN, especially in these times.

I was an EAP student thirty-five years ago and my first contact with UCSD was the International Center (a tiny little structure at this time, but extremely friendly and welcoming !)
I then had the opportunity to work there for several years and, as a Friend of the International Center, to volunteer for different activities.
This is a place that has helped so many people that it seems unbelievable to see it "disappear".
Hope this petition will help maintain this indispensable service to the international students, post-docs and their families.

As a proud, 37-year employee of the University, I am disappointed that the administration would consider razing a part of its' beloved history. With the vast number of foreign students and faculty welcomed to the campus, the International Center has served a very special purpose.

As a graduate of UCSD, I was very dismayed to learned of the University's plan to demolish the International Center without a viable plan in plan to replace it. The Center has been an important part of UCSD and the international community. In this this time of global turmoil, it is imparative to preserve this source of community.

This facility is like car or life insurance. You don't know ahead of time when you will need it. But when you do need it, it is the correct place to go for support.

This is an urgent need in our present day. Please keep the International Center in all future plans as a cohesive unit located in a single cohesive site!

Don't divide us! Don't make the UK leaving Europe Union fumble again! We need the place of fine history and a great amount of memories. UC San Diego is an internationally reputable university in education, academy research, and worldwide academic exchanges while its one of the landmarks, international center to be specific, being demolished. That does not make sense at all.

The International Center has been the perfect place for faculty, staff, and students to exchange ideas that improve (or help to) the UCSD's community of understanding of cultural issues, politics and basically how to get along with each other. We need this in this time of misunderstanding/lack of caring and love for each other. Unity keeps us together and for those people who want nothing more than to divide us, the International Center can be/is a beacon that will prepare the future generations of leaders for both national and international students.
