I sincerely hope the Administration will delay the demolition of the Center and begin negotiations to rebuild and preserve it as a single unit.

My husband and I moved to San Diego this year as he is here as a visiting scholar for 2 years. We came to the UCSD community not knowing anyone and thanks to the programs at the international centre, I have managed to connect with other spouses who have moved to San Diego for similar reasons. I have also been a volunteer at the FRIENDS Resale Shop over the past few months and have seen how the place has thrived as a center for friendship, conversation and community. I understand the university has carefully considered this demolition project and has made this decision to provide more learning space in UCSD, however I would urge the board to consider delaying this process while alternative meeting locations are found for the resale shop as well as the ongoing programs at the IC. Your consideration is greatly appreciated!

I received so much support from the International Center during my first years in the United States! This place is home to spouses of postdocs and international exchange scholars. Please, keep this wonderful organization running! It makes UCSD great!

The IC is a tremendous resource for foreign students/post-doc who come to work at UCSD. Why is thimarked for destruction like the Art Center was just a couple of weeks ago? Part of the "Trump Plan" to get rid of anything "international"?

My foreign graduate students and post docs, and those of many colleagues and collaborators on campus, have gained from the International Center and its amalgam of programs and resources. As the population of students and post-docs is ever more international, demolition without an articulated plan for the future of existing resources and for a "safe haven" for international scholars is a large error. - David Kleinfeld

Sometimes the impact of important things might be under estimated. But this is an institution of happiness and wellness.

I know from experience that it's extremely frustrating to move between several buildings for a single errand in a department, so it's necessary to keep the international center and study abroad utilities in the same location.

The International Center has served UCSD in a superb fashion. Why demolish when there is shortage of space and without a plan to replace it by a better center.

International Center is really a good place. I met a lot of friends there, and started my new life in US more easier with that. Please don't demolish our IC.

When my husband and I moved to the U.S. four years ago we knew we would need to start several things from scratch and, definitely, starting our circle of friends is one of the most challenge parts, specially if you are the spouse. New city, new home, new language and, basically, no friends. So an angel told my husband about the I.C. in our first month here and I decided to give it a try. I remember so clearly my first day at I.C., walking towards the I.C. door, quite insecure and shy, I saw Jenny from far away welcoming me to the group. I felt home right away. So from then on I started participating in the conversation table and cooking and knitting classes, and I began meeting people from all over the world and making good friends. Practicing with my international friends I gained confidence in speaking English and improved a lot. At I.C. I shared culture, love and friendship. I am extremely thankful to all the I.C volunteers who work there to provide this amazing and unique experience to us. Please find a new place for I.C. and let it keep touching lives and making all the difference in the international community.
