The International Center is integral to providing support, resources and opportunities that promote cultural and academic engagement, exposure to diverse communities and international travel as well as an environment that fosters local exchanges and activities where international and local students can meet and learn from one another.
The Friends of the International Center has been pivotal in my personal and professional development during my undergraduate training which led me to pursue and recently complete my doctorate in Global Health, Public Health. I hope that other students, at any level of their academic trajectory, have the opportunity to also learn and engage in opportunities that have served as a foundation for so many students. As such, the Center should not demolished without proper alternative housing being provided for Friends of the International Center.

As an international grad student at UCSD, I benefit from IC tremendously and so do other international students. The international students population is increasing every year, bringing a lot of profit to our campus, both economically and culturally. Yet by demolishing the center without having a plan on when and where to rebuild it, the university is doing international students a disservice. I am against this decision.

Please save the international center! It is home to international students like me. I became deeply attached to it over the past 4 years living and working on this campus. The kindness and support I received from the staff and Friends of International Center are beyond my description. I would like to ask the campus to keep the center as it is. Thank you!

The IC is a place that has helped and opened up a dialogue for the many visiting scholars and their spouses and families over its 55+ year history. It provides a wonderful environment to share, enjoy, make new friends, and a safety net to those with limited English or who are shy to be in a place where there are NO labels and ALL are welcome. For many, UCSD is the first glimpse of the U.S., and the staff and volunteers at the IC makes that first experience and introduction a positive and supportive place to be. The University, in this negative and phobic times, needs to stand up and show the world that internationalism has a place and that UCSD is committed to maintaining its international profile in light of its proximity to the border and to its Asian Pacific neighbors. Multiculturalism at this UC institution is a must and IC should be supported to the fullest and not brushed aside and dismantled.

UCSD's international center holds great activities to help and support international spouse/family's life, which is an essential and important support for UCSD employee to have a stable support from their spouse/family hence perform better in their job.

The International Center from the beginning of UCSD has brought together students and staff from abroad and the locals and has eased the life of a visiting scholar. A site on campus is essential.

When we're recruiting graduate students from abroad we take them to the international center to assure them they'll have a structure to help with all the social and legal adjustments they'll have to make. It's important that the center be a welcoming physical space. Losing this will make itharder for us to attract students from abroad.

The IC is a wonderful resource serving the needs of new international students and scholars and their families. It makes UCSD stands above other similar institutions in providing help, guidance and support to the new-comers. Since the university badly needs all its international work-force, preserving a center like this is only in its own interest.

I am the spouse of a faculty member. We have commented that other universities SHOULD IMITATE UCSD in having a central gathering place for international students and visiting scholars. Now UCSD wants to tear it down and not replace it!

The ICenter has been a vibrant community providing vital assistance to foreign students and visiting scholars.
As of today the Oceanids Kitchen Exchange does not have a new home. The Kitchen Exchange, which began in Freida Urey's Garage before moving to the ICenter garage rents kithchen items and baby equipment to post docs and visiting scholars at a small fee. I have heard praises for this service from distinguished professors visiting UCSD. It is a wonderful service staffed for decades by volunteers.
Please present a plan for replacing the ICenter that includes spaces for meeting all the needs of foreign students and scholars, as well as a room for the Kitchen Exchange and Friends Resale shop.

With thousands of international students and scholars at UCSD it is completely unacceptable to abandon the international center without a concrete plan about the building, services and staff who will serve this population. The University must respect this population and be public and transparent about their exact plans to care for them and the staff who works so hard to support them.

As a former UCSD postdoc I valued the ICenter a lot. People in the Center helped me to understand how the dynamics of US immigration and tax laws applied to me. Also, my husband spent many hours in one of the courses they offered. A common space for internationals is needed. I really hope that the UCSD administration consider rebuilding it as a whole.

We need a central place that international students and scholars can go and feel welcomed to start their life and career at UCSD.
