Petition to Save the International Center at UCSD

I support this petition.

As a foreigner that arrived to UCSD many years ago, it was very helpful to have the International Center and all their offices in one single location. It really help with the process of adjusting to a new life at UCSD

The International Center is an integral part of the campus, and thus deserves to be at a central location. It also has been established and flourished in its current location so moving it, tearing it down and building a new structure with a different purpose would not only be a huge waste of resources, but might result in a decline in its efficiency. International students rely on the constant help from the IC and I request that the demolition be either delayed until a better solution is reached.

The International center is one of the oldest facilities at UCSD which has proved its worth as a cultural meeting place for all The cost is minimal considering all the volunteer workers .It raises funds for international scholarships and provides a meeting place for foreign students as they adapt to life in the US . PLEASE ASSURE THAT THIS CONTINUES by delaying the demolition and providing a similar cohesive venue for this important function.

Center should be kept or a new location found to support the large number of international students and scholars at UCSD!

The programs at the UCSD IC provide opportunity for students and faculty wives to meet other people and fundraising for scholarships.

New plans for a center are more important than the demolition.

I send a lot of students to the international center.

These developments are quite troubling. Also, two functions of the international center, the Kitchen Exchange and the Resale Shop have been shut down, i.e. they have not been relocated. Why this rush?

The International Center is useful for all people from different countries.

The International Center has proved invaluable to me - the administrative functions are essential, of course, but the many different information sessions/seminars as well as the social interactions such as the Friday lunches have been wonderful and helpful in helping me integrate in the UCSD community.

I have only been at UCSD a short time but I know how valuable the International Center is to students and scholars here. It was a major part of life providing essential support to students at my previous institution as well. It is important to make sure that all on campus are comfortable with future plans before demolishing such a valuable space.

The international center is an important component of the UCSD community. It provides students valuable opportunities for intellectual growth, strengthens their ability to attain academic success and fosters understanding.

This place helped me a lot when I first came to this country. Sad it is going to be demolished. I hope there is some way to keep it or find another place for the international visitors and students.

The International Center is great and should have an unit. When I moved in the USA, the International Center helped me to accommodate quickly, to not forget any paperworks and more importantly to meet hundreds of people in the same situation than me. It made me feel at home the first week I started my job at UCSD!

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Splitting it up into different components will reduce its effectiveness. We have a large and valuable international community of students, grad students and postdocs. We should not diminish the value of the services that the International Center provides.

The International Center is one of the only remaining things that makes UCSD special.

I support this petition. I think that the international centers gives great value to the (many) international scholars that we have at UCSD
