I think that the International Center is an essential component of an internationally prominent, research-intensive university like UCSD, and the exchange is particularly valuable for graduate students coming from outside of the region.

As a foreign-born faculty member who has experienced the value of international centers at both UCSD and MIT, I know the value of such centers being housed in common space for all their functions. Dispersing them across the campus destroys the "home" that is of such value to new foreign members of the UCSD campus. If UCSD is to develop its international reputation its administrators must recognize the importance of this function.

The way this situation has been handled is appalling; everyone involved at the center deserves a clear plan to move forward; communicated and implemented in a timely way with minimum disruption of jobs, programs and services. This entire situation has certainly had a negative effect on the way I look at UC San Diego.

As a two time graduate alumna of cross-disciplinary and international studies programs, I benefited greatly from the robust international community at UC San Diego. While this community faces so many current challenges in our country, a place of respite, of sharing with other campus communities, and a place of coming together is ever more essential. Please keep the current International Center until a new one can be constructed.

I am an internationnal post doc at the UCSD and I greatly appreciate the services provided by the internationnal center.
The presence of this center was also part of my decision to came here for my post doc.

as an employee with international background, I found it astounding to demolish the existing international center and disperse various elements across campus. Even if this is only temporary, dispersing such an important go-to place for international folks really does not make any sense and suggests that the university has not thought this trough.

Please do not demolish International house before substitute places for us are prepared. The programs offered in I-house is very important to me.
Instead of demolishing the center, repair or remodel it during the summer vacation!

The International Center is an important facet of the UCSD community. It would be devastating loss to our University if this Center is not restored. I support this petition in delaying the plans for this demolition.

iCenter has been a second home for all of our international students. It has been helpful and welcoming for us of every possible way. We would really like to have it saved.
