The International Center is a great value for the family of postdoc. Thanks to the IC, we met wonderful people who are now good friends. Moreover, the activities provided by the friends of the IC are a great oppportunity for J-2 partners to meet people, exhange, learn english, to be considered by someone else, and to feel like a part of the american society, It helps postdocs and partners to have a nice life in the US, especially ar UCSD.
A good postdoc is a postdoc happy in his job, and he can fully enjoy his/her time at UCSD only knowing that his/her spouse (and/or children) enjoy their time in the US as well. The friends of IC are of great importance in this process, and need to stay present for the families.

The international center is a critical space for the UCSD community. It is the go-to center for the international community, which constitutes a very large portion of the students and researchers that make UCSD a top ranking institution. It is also one the the primary areas of community building at UCSD, fostering important connections that make this university a livable and human space. In addition to this, the international center hosts countless cultural events, and organizes scholarships that are critical for both undergraduate and graduate student research. Demolishing the international center is unthinkable. UCSD would be destroying one of its most valuable resources.

The IC has been the clue for me to be happy here in San Diego. Is the place where I can meet people and feel better about myself since I cannot work in the US. Mu husband is studing and MBA at Rady School and he is paying a very high tuition, so we don't have a lot pf money to spend in social activities and de IC has been the place where I have been able to spend my time doinf great activities and meet people from all over the world. Please give us a pleace where they can continue doing what they are doing.

As an international student, I benefited from many services of International Center. When I first arrived in the US, it was the first place I felt I was welcome. They offered many services from orientation sessions to Friday cafe to help us integrate to the society in a smooth way. I socialized with both international and native students or people from local communities in their Friday cafe and made new friends.
Please do not demolish International Center.

Over the years my students, postdocs and faculty colleagues have made excellent use of the many invaluable services of the International Center. I suppose that there could be a reasonable justification for this action, but the University's on-line notification of this action does not provide one. Instead it says only that "the reimagining of a new nexus of international community for the campus is underway". Shouldn't the onus be on the University to plan for the continuity of such vital campus services, and gain approval from the broader community, before any demolition or separation of functions is considered? The planned action, taken during the summer without reasonable advance notice and apparently without broad consultation, is harmful to the University. The demands of this petition should be honored.

UCSD administration wishes to privatize the university, which means wall-to-wall corporate control. To hell with that.

Virtual centers are useless. Students and staff need a common, central, space for meeting, socializing, and building community.
For all of UCSD's talk of "building community", their record is abysmal (i.e. closing both the Scripps Institution Library and the UCSD Crafts Center, without any regards to they larger non-revenue based services they provided).
As a student who has benefited from the many services the International Center provides, it is really sad to see this happening a third time to the UCSD International Center.

I have been a "customer" of the International Center many times. This center is essential for incoming international students. It is important that all of the affiliated employees stay close as they are the initial anchors for students who frequently feel lost in the UC bureaucracy

The fostering of support for international students both coming to ucsd and going from ucsd to other universities represent the spirit we want to project into our world. Please consider a permanent space on campus for this to continue and grow.

As an international scholar, I have used the center for the past 9 years and always experienced it as THE got-to place for both administrative needs as well as socializing with UCSD's large international community. I was aware of the office relocations, but surprised to hear that there was no agreed plan to re-build a new center with identical purpose. If this is indeed true, by all means, please make (and fund) that plan asap, before taking the old one down! Also, do not underestimate the center's importance to the social aspects of your int'l workforce, e.g. for postdocs' spouses and families.

The International Center needs one central hub for contact, resources, support and advocacy for international students and scholars. UCLA and CAL are known for their International Centers. If UCSD wants to keep up their reputation as a global force among Internationals and Locals alike - listen - Don't scatter, don't demolish - UPGRADE

As an international student I was happy to have one place where I could go to to get help with any problem I might have. The demolition should be delayed until there is an agreement for the rebuilding of the international center as one cohesive unit.
I disagree with the demolition of i center
