As a member of the Friends of the International Center, a graduate of UCSD School of Medicine, a La Jolla resident, and a world traveler, the destruction of the International Center is abhorrent. The International Center is the nexus of cultures interacting and learning about each other; promoting appreciation, communication, and understanding among the international students and their families. This is a unique bonus for UCSD and to destroy a building that allows these interactions to occur is short-sighted and detrimental.
I ask that UCSD reconsiders plans to destroy the International Center and considers options to remedy the problems that led to these drastic measures.

International center is the first place I went when I arrived the UCSD. It is a convenient hotspot for international students to exchange their idea , daily life between other international and domestic students. We can easily get the information related to us here. I am happy I got help and guidance when I was a student even when I become alumni .

International center is an important building that serves to not only international students but all the student community at UCSD. This kind of space is needed for organizing events and activities and also doing the paperwork for international students. I think the university would be deeply impacted if the building is demolished. Please reconsider this issue. I was an international student at UCSD as well and I remember how much the personnel and the facility helped us at the time.

International Center helped me a lot while I was a post-doc fellow in SIO. With this help, I could successfully accomplish my work. It may become a big loss of competence of UCSD without such supportive infrastructure for international students/researchers.

The Friends Center provides such an important space for a community of amazing international people to meet and to learn. Through the friendships formed, and the improved English communication achieved through some of our programs, the international friends also give back to the university community as a whole. It is such an asset to the university campus and really needs a space of its own.

The International Center was like a second home my 2nd and 4th years at UCSD. I spent a lot of time there planning for my 3rd year abroad and then I worked in the Programs Abroad Office during my 4th year. This place was the inspiration point for many UCSD students to see the world and contribute to it. Please do not demolish it.

UCSD should recognize the importance of the International Center as it provides an invaluable place for dependant to meet people in a similar situation. It further provides an important network for newcomers to adjust to their lives and help with whatever they are struggling with. Keeping the spouses connected and part of a community, in turn, is of importance for the scholars since they can focus on their work and help keep UCSD a top ranking university.

The International Center is instrumental in both easing the transition to life around the UCSD campus for foreign students as well as aiding students who are traveling abroad. Losing this community will be a huge blow to the integration of different cultures around the UCSD campus and will adversely effect the academic community. Please consider the importance of diversity and cultural exchange in a university setting when deciding the future of this program.
