As a supervisor, I can testify that we need all the help we can get to insure that our higher degree students are offered competitive packages to support their study here in New Zealand. We need this help so that we can continue to recruit and retain the very best people, regardless of their wealth or background. I would therefore be grateful if the University administration reconsider this policy change as it runs counter to this mission-critical need.

This is not acceptable, when we enrolled we were told that part of our student levy was to cover the printing and photocopying costs and now we are told that even though we've paid the student levy, we should pay extra for printing!

The printing requirements of postgraduate students are very high and would easily cost me $100-200 p/a. Not being able to print due to cost would severely negatively impact my studies. Additionally, the lack of notification is unacceptable.

We need students to be able to afford postgraduate studies to enable NZ to contribute to research, new innovations and developments across a range of disciplines. In the long term this will be cost effective in generating new product and employment opportunities.

There is no one place as students we can access to find out the complete terms and conditions under which we study at UC. Consequently any changes that take place seem arbitrary. This change is imposed on us in a way that allows us little chance for questioning its legitimacy, and affects our quality of experience at UC in a particularly negative way.

This change is asking postgraduate students to shoulder an unfair cost burden, considering many of our programs require us to print materials - not to mention how it unfairly burdens those of us with TA/RA positions, who are suddenly asked to pay out of pocket for something that might be required by our supervisors.
There are better ways to transition to a paper-free campus that don't involve unfairly targeting postgrads.

Yes, I am with all the comments mentioned before. PG students should be motivated, helped and supported like what other universities do. I have contacted my friends in other universities and all of them said we can print what we need for free.
Hopefully, you support us, be with us because we are already financially broken. The rules in this university should encourage others to come and join us, but not repellent us and them. please take us into your consideration once you announce any new rules, think how to motivate students, how to help them and how to facilitate their study in this university but not to complicate things.

Aside from thoughts on the policy itself, which others have already articulated better than I would, I find myself disappointed but not surprised by the lack of consultation and lack of regard for students shown by the University: this appears to be becoming a trend in their decision-making which needs to be curtailed.
