We, students in the MFCT masters program and Counselor Education and Supervision MFCT doctoral track programs, were informed that the CACREP site team was unclear about our professional identity. By signing this letter (or providing email verification in lieu of my signature), I attest to counseling being the focus of my professional identity. Our faculty and our experiences in the program ground us in a counseling identity.

I honestly did not think this would gain so much traction when I first typed it out during a study break but the momentum is actually wild right now. It means everything to see that so many of us feel this same disconnect regarding how others view our training because we know exactly who we are as counselors and that is never going to change.

Even though I was trained from a systemic/MFCT perspective, I identify myself as a professional counselor. (PhD. 4th year)

I identify with systemic MFT education provided at the University of Akron and that solid foundation has thoroughly prepared me to practice as both a LPC and MFT after graduating in May 2017.
