I grew up as a neighbor to Tom Allen who was a history teacher and the author of The Saga of Texas. He researched real people, real events and taught that the battles of the Alamo, Goliad, San Jacinto, et al. were fought by multiple races side by side to defeat tyranny. These were not white against Mexican or any other minority. These were heroes fighting for liberty against oppression and against long odds! Do NOT allow the sacrifices of these people be denigrated or forgotten!

Mr. Bryan,
The late Tuffly Ellis had the manners to never suggest a deficiency of historical learning underlies the understanding of those who disagreed with him. Nor did he insult the memory of one’s kinfolks who sacrificed for Texian Independence, nor for the Stars and Bars, and neither did he feel the need to denigrate those opposing either or both. That a man like Walter Buenger now sits in the place Tuffly, as much the scholar as the gentleman, once sat, says everything about why the former’s employment badly needs reconsideration.

The individual in question inserts a heavy bias into his work, inflicting great harm onto the study and appreciation of history.

I have presented at TSHA's Annual Meeting a number of times and was a member for many years. I dropped my membership after he made so many incendiary comments that I no longer was comfortable associating my name with the organization that continued to give him his platform.

The man under discussion does not seem to understand that his bringing up "white" people in everything he sees, is because that is who was here in the beginning of Texas history. We cannot force "inclusion" on history. We can only report history, not edit it to today's culture. Please find someone who does not have an "agenda" to take Texas down, but someone who cares that the truth be told. That is who should be working in this job, not the one who seems set on destroying the truth.

This man has shown by his comments on Texas and the Texas Revolution that he has no respect for the Texas Revolution hero fighters that fought for Texas and freedom from Mexico. Get rid of him.
