Dr Buenger’s use of the outdated term “clap-trap” begets the current definitions of nonsense and pretentious.

Please stop this morons negative propaganda against Texas. Just what is his agenda? He does not support Texas & has no business in this position.

Time for him to go. Historians should not be ideologues. Their job is to preserve history, not change it to suit their beliefs.

As a native Texas, it appears to me that Walter Buenger is using his highly paid position to further his “woke” ideology”. I do not believe that should be in his job description.

I am concerned about the competency of Dr. Walter L. Buenger to carry out the duties of his current position.

I looked up the word 'travesty": "A word to describe anything that seems to mock, distort, or poorly imitate something else." That's what we have here. By his distortation, Dr. Buenger makes a travesty of Texas history. Unacceptable.

I grew up in NE Texas and had Texas History in grade 7 like all other Texas students of that time. That same year my parents took me to Austin to visit the capitol and to San Antonio to visit the Alamo and the other missions. As a younger child I first visited the San Jacinto battlefield, the Battleship Texas and the wonderful museum there. I believe that the picture of Texas history I received was balanced and that I was aware of the true racial makeup of that history, including slavery. I know that I grew up in the 1950's in a very racist environment. But I am proud to say that my public-school education was surprisingly free of overt prejudice. The whole premise of the "forget the Alamo" point of view and those people who support it, is false in that Texas history has NOT been taught (at least not officially) from a racist perspective. Some individual teachers may have overstepped their duty teach true history, but mine did not. Despite terrible depictions by Hollywood, the true history was always available for anyone who looked for it. Dr. Buenger seems focused on recent views of the history of racism rather than the real experience of average people living through those times.

Historical truth is the only way to responsibly learn from the past, interpret for our future.

Dr. Buenger needs to be removed.

Dr Buenger is apparently woefully ignorant or intentionally deceptive in discussing the tyranny and brutality that Santa Anna would use in 1834-1836 in the northern states of Zacatecas and Coahuila y Tejas. Santa Anna slaughtered 2,000 civilians including women and children in Zacatecas. Texas was next. He also appears not to be familiar with Johnnie Belle McDonald's 1922 thesis, the Soldiers of San Jacinto, in which she lists a good number of Tejanos.

The Chief Historian of TSHA must provide active leadership by educating the public with factual and non bias historical facts of our Great State of Texas. Past performance has proven that Dr. Buenger has neglected this duty. The time has come for him to be removed from his position and replace as soon as possible. Texas and the world deserve better leadership for TSHA. Time for a new direction.

Activism has no place in Texas history, or any history. Dr. Bunger's performance review is long overdue.
