Mr. Bryan, I am appalled with Dr. Buenger's role as Chief Historian with the TSHA. I agree with the assessments stated in this petition, and I urge you to closely consider replacing Dr. Buenger in this position. Furthermore, I will also be urging the UT President and Board of Regents to also find a more suitable educator worthy of the position.

It is imperative that history be taught objectively and without and agenda. If what I’ve read about this man is true, he certainly has betrayed any semblance of objectivity. Do as you may, but remember education should be just that…not “woke” indoctrination.

This is overdue. TSHA needs to fairly represent the views of all Texans, not just those that only want to emphasize the most negative aspects of our history. Yes, there are negative things that we must acknowledge, but we also need to accentuate the positive. There is much to be done, but we have come a long way. More so than at any time in the past, Texas is a land of opportunity for everyone that lives here.

I'm a dues-paying member of the TSHA and respectfully suggest an overdue review of Dr. Buenger's performance with a critical eye on a possible racial lens through which he interprets and communicates the history of our Great State of Texas.

Dr. Walter Buenger does not need a performance review. He needs to be kick to the curb. Many of his statements and decisions divide the folks of Texas. We need a person that will protect and cherish our colorful history. Good or Bad, we learn from it. We don't change or rewrite history simply because we don't like it. If you can't deal with the facts of Texas history without forcing your opinions or feelings into the picture, maybe you shouldn't be the Texas Chief Historian. Sounds like Dr. Walter Buenger is part of the problem in out state today.

I am all for a balanced approach to the review of history, but "Forget the Alamo" does not do justice to our past.

Please carry out the duties as outlined in the contract. A thorough review seems overdue in this case. Hopefully, you will do what is best for Texas and not just what is convenient.

The lack of evaluations is as stunning as the lack of actual performance by Dr. Buenger. He needs to find a new job, a new avenue to direct his hate towards.
