TSHA to Assess the Job Performance of Dr. Walter Buenger.

Walter Buenger will also need to be reviewed by the Department of History at The University of Texas, where he holds the Summerlee Foundation Chair in Texas History and Barbara Stuart Centennial Professor in Texas History. HIs current work, as reported on his CV on the UT website is: Re-conceptualization of Texas and the Southwest with the tentative title, “Texas Since 1810: Border Crossings and Shifting Identities over Time.” In addition to providing input on his work as State Historian, it would be useful to see the job description for State Historian.

Dr. Walter Buenger should have his employment as Chief Historian terminated because: he has used his position as a politically-divisive pulpit from which to try to denigrate the history of both white and Hispanic defenders at the Alamo, he has used his position to further drive the wedge of racial acrimony and "wokeness" between the citizens of Texas, he has embarrassed patriotic Texans by his preaching that the Alamo and the fight for Texas Independence was a furtherance of white supremacy and his contract has been expired for almost 8 months and he has drawn a paycheck for that time without a valid employment contract.

I love Texas and her History! Treat her faithfully.

I think it may be time for a change.

Dr. Buenger should be the face of Texas History. He should be proud of the people who lived and died in the harsh extremes and not criticizing. Every society has their mal-contents but that doesn't define the entire people. Get a Chief Historian who will declare the good and not dwell on the bad of past Texans. Could Dr. Buenger survive the days of Texas in the 19th century and still have a negative view on Texas? For the salary Dr. Buenger receives he better be out in the world earning it.

Only reviewed twice a year & now 6 months overdue? What kind of administration are they running?

This review needs to happen immediately as required by the contract. And the results of the review need to be made public. This is effectively a government position; and the public needs to be aware of the results of the review.

I ask that you perform your job and review Dr. Buenger's performance and see if he fulfilled his part of his employment contract and then take the CORRECT actions.

as a native born Texan I am ashamed of Buenger's negative attitude about our state, and wonder how he in good conscience could theoretically represent our history to the scholarly and general public. He shames us, and himself, with his uninformed biased presentations.

Time to clean house...

As Joe Friday said..." Just the facts". Unbiased fact IS history. We don't need speculation. There were a lot more people than "whites" attempting to overthrow the Spanish, French and Mexican governments for their CRIMES. DeZvalla, Sequin, Native Indians, and settlers from many counties. and anglos.

Buenger's bias is palpable, which of course, Buenger would acknowledge and Buenger would claim to be balancing decades of bias. But he has no proof.

"Remember the Alamo!"

Time to return to acknowledging TEXAS history as it happened, not as a few would wish to create, promoting their own agendas.

There should be accountability for performance.

Fire him. No more rewriting history to race bait. He has not been positive or productive. The men who fought at the Alamo fought honorably against oppression and that shoukd not be dishonored. Race had nothing to do with it. Freedom did!

While a more nuanced view of the entire Texas origin story is appropriate in these times, to have the lead Texas historian firing such broadsides in official comments is unacceptable. He seems to be engaged in his own, personal agenda and that needs to stop.

Most important action that needs to be taken.
