“Forget the Alamo? How many times over the last forty years or so have serious historians, exasperated by the debilitating hyper-focus on the Texas Revolution and the clap-trap that went with it, uttered that plaintive cry?”
Is this truly the individual we Texans want representing Texas history? I think not!

As a native Texan and a lover of history, I find the information about this “chief historian” disturbing and insulting. Only an imbecile would think that the Alamo was a symbol of white supremacy. Just a quick glance at the names of those who fought demonstrates that those fighting for freedom from the tyrannical government of Santa Anna were of more than one race. How racist of this “chief historian” to assume that only white people could recognize and oppose such a government.

Dr. Buenger's biased, overt words and actions are obviously intended to elicit an entirely personal, subversive radical agenda incongruous with factual history. He does not deserve a contractual review; he should be fired.

As creator of a leading Texas History curricula for homeschooled students, I believe presenting all historical perspectives is important. I've often cited TSHA as a neutral resource that fairly represents all Texan cultures. Therefore it's the one-sided perspective of Dr. Walter Buenger causes me great concern. While he's certainly entitled to his opinion, I am not comfortable with someone so publicly biased by modern interpretations serving at the helm of the Texas State Historical Association.
Please consider someone who will serve all Texas cultures evenhandedly.

Based on Dr. Buenger lack of participation in the terms of his contract, it is well past time for a review of his position as Chief Historian.

Please consider objectivity, an open mind and the clear absence of an agenda in filling this position in the future.

Time for TSHA and it's chief historian to be about history, not the hidden agendas of those who want to use history as a weapon.

Thank you for bringing this up.
It needs to be addressed before Texas history is re-writen.

I believe, that if you check the names of those involved in the Battle of the Alamo, you will find diversity on both sides of the war- inside and outside the Alamo’s walls. Certainly all we’re welcomed to stand-up for an independent Texas. Those who chose to join-in bravery- did so.

As a 6th generation Texan and great grandmother of a 9th generation, I want to ensure that future generations are as proud and grateful as I for the sacrifices and achievements of our ancestors. Dr Buenger should not be allowed to continue to denigrate these brave men and women. He should be removed immediately for pursuing a personal agenda that is contrary to the facts. Furthermore, I have previously left a bequest to the Summerlee foundation that will be deleted from my will due to Dr Buenger's position with that organization.

I don't believe Dr. Buenger has exhibited much scholarship in regards to Texas History. He only reflects todays politically correct view on 200 year old history. Unfair depiction of yesterday's culture. Not nuanced. Obviously politically biased left wing not moderated. by perspective on the times. Needs to be more objective in those regards.

Buenger should be fired for his incendiary comments alone.
