Truman State University Should Have Snow Days

This was dangerous for all students and faculty and horrible judgement on Trumans part.

The campus my have been mostly cleared but everywhere around campus was coated and encased in ice. It took me three times longer than normal to arrive on campus Even the grass was too slippery to walk normally on.

If the university cannot make its own paths safe enough to travel on, students should not have to come to class.

Safety is important

I slipped and fell on a very small incline and spent 3 minutes trying to get up another. I live a 15 minute walk away from campus (in normal weather conditions)

I saw multiple people fall on the ice during the day. If we can slide to one building to another, it is not safe to be walking to our classes.

I was on the way to Barnett the other, extremely icy, day. Several people literally said “screw this” and turned around to slowly penguin waddle back to their dorms. The ice was even slicker on the grass at some points so walking in the grass instead of on a path was a fruitless endeavor. When I finally made it down the hill, watching countless people tumble like giant human snowballs, I tried to cross the street. I fell and a car was coming - couldn’t stop - so someone grabbed my arm and pulled me up just in time. Going up the hill to the physical building was much worse. Cars were sliding down, people all over the ground, and several of my friends had fallen and were bloody and injured. In the middle of our class we got an email saying that class was up to “our discretion”. I wouldn’t have almost been killed had that email been sent earlier or classes were cancelled. Tons of people went to the health center- so much so it overflowed into the health science building and almost the same amount had to go to the ER. Very disappointed in Truman’s salting process and snow/ice policy. While I realize that cancelling classes is a pain in the ass for faculty, staff, and students alike, it’s never worth people getting actual pains in their asses or concussions.

Are you hecking kidding me? Why are these NOT a thing?

This is insane. This university has no idea what student life is like.

Truman State University has a responsibility to it's students to provide clear walkways in the event of inclimate weather, and to call off school when conditions are too hazardous to walk to class. The Universitiy administration made an irresponsible mistake by 1) waiting until classes were already in session to contact students, and 2) by placing the decision not to come to school in the hands of students, who may be academically punished for their absence but an unreasonable professor.

I went to Truman and there were far too many days I was forced to walk to class in horrible weather. It's dangerous and not worth having the school open on days the walks aren't clear.

How many times do I have to eat it on the bricks before my safety and dignity is valued at my institution

My daughter fell on the ice yesterday and was hurt. The fall also shattered her watch. Snow and ice days are for the safety of your students and much needed!!

I knew of 2 students sent to the ER trying to get to class. In Truman’s attempts to “be the best and brightest” they seem suffer a serious laps in judgement when it comes to the safety of their students. You already give us severe anxiety... why not give us a snow day every once in a while?

Safety of the students paying to attend your University should be reason enough to have snow days!

My sister goes here and I am honestly appalled that the university will not give them a break even when the ground is coated in ice. They should atleast get a 2hr delay! No education for one missed day is worth the pain or risk of injury.
