Decomissioning TROPOMI would be a huge loss for our quest to monitor and understand the state of the Earth atmosphere and a waste of previous investments made. Having Sentinel 5P TROPOMI providing data next to Sentinel 5 is the smart thing to do.

We have been using TROPOMI data for Chile, connecting NO2 concentrations with health impact assessment. Having satellite data available for Latin America, where surface observations are scarce or not available, really makes a huge difference.

As a researcher in South Africa, satellite data from TROPOMI are invaluable to understand our pollution (from sources to concentrations) and its trends. We are data-scarce, and thus, TROPOMI measurements fill necessary gaps to support quantifying air quality and its impacts.

Temporal coverage has been and remains a critical limitation for many satellite missions aiming to detect and to quantify methane sources, highly variable in space and time due to their fugitive nature, or N2O impacted by a strong diurnal cycle. S5P is by no mean a redundant nor superfluous mission if we hope to document the complexity of sources around the world, especially anthropogenic ones.

Having seen so many end users being very enthusiastic about the long lasting and stable TROPOMI data and considering that the instrument is working flawless and stable from the start without any issue whatsoever it would be a waste of investment to stop operating it. TROPOMI is the most successful project I ever worked on!

High quality data largely used by a wide community of researcher and users. Europe must support such environmental monitoring to adress its zero pollution targets. When an space based intrument is working and used like this one it will be a huge error to stop it.

The best reason .... and only a reason with two instruments responding -- "Sentinel 5 is in a morning orbit, while Sentinel 5P, which carries TROPOMI, is in an afternoon orbit. This is important because some of the gases measured by TROPOMI and Sentinel 5 are reactive and are not the same in the morning and afternoon. Combining the data yields unique insights into chemical processes in the atmosphere.".
A replacement mission would have offered measurements in the SAME TIMEFRAME only !
