Why terminate the support of an instrument that took so much effort to get into orbit (it is not trivial at all to do that right!), delivers great data and promises to continue doing that for many years to come? It hasn't become obsolete at all - and it doesn't look like this will happen any time soon.

TROPOMI NO2 provides the best benchmark for new satellite observations. GOSAT-GW/TANSO-3 from Japan has a similar observation time (13:00 local time) and requires TROPOMI for at least three more years for cross-validation.

TROPOMI SIF provides a global benchmark dataset for terrestrial photosynthesis, which is quite valuable for monitoring productivity and carbon uptake and evaluating and benchmarking diagnostic and prognostic models. It does not make sense to decommission such a valuable mission.

TROPOMI methane data has been incredibly important in bringing attention to coal mine methane emissions, not just within academia but also across the think tank and NGO communities. Having access to this data has made it possible to identify major emission sources and communicate the scale of the problem to policymakers and the public. It is really important that the data remains available, so that this work can continue.

I can can testify of the outstanding value of TROPOMI as Scientific Development lead of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service Regional Production (European Air Quality Forecasts and analysis) and Service Manager of the CAMS Policy Support. INERIS is the public body mandated by the French Ministry of Environment to produce national scale air quality forecast and coordinate modelling activities as part of the french national reference laboratory
