Triumph Belt Drive Problems...Recall Needed

Same problem. Bike only has 17,000 miles on it. Dealer wants to charge me $1800 to replace belt and pulleys

Triumph specs are wrong. Three Triumph shops couldn't remove the belt chirp with them, only manually adjusting to center belt works, but this is ad-hoc, not to spec.

2015 T-bird. Very loud chirping/squeak. I was very surprised the dealer and saleswoman did not warn me of this.

2014 Thunderbird Commander. Belt has chirped from day one. Was never offered a test ride. First ride was out the door, mechanic said it's just a "Commander thing". Very loud and embarrassing.

I bought thunderbird storm in 2016 feb. And i am the only owner in turkey no one knows how to solve this problem. Belt squeaking for 1000 kms

Have a '14 TBird Commander. Love the bike except for the belt / hub squawking.

I actually had the bearings in the sprocket hub fail. The hub was rocking back and forth making a "squaking" noise. Caught it before it failed completely.

I had this problem also on a 2010 1700 ABS. Just by luck I discovered the issue. The belt must be adjusted to run in the middle of the pulley. Loosen the 27mm nut and adjust with the adjustment screws until it runs in the center. The chirping is a result of the belt rubbing against the outside or the inside of the rear pulley. After I adjusted it, I never experienced the chirp again. Might try to see if it works for you.

Annoying and persistent belt chirp. Poor dealer knowledge on this and all other issues. Consistently tell me any issues I cite are "normal" or nothing can be done.

I have the same problem on my 2010 thunderbird

I have had a chirping problem on my 2012 thunderbird 1600 it wasn't to loud but when the rear tyre was changed it became louder so i took it to triumph as i read the ajustment my be wrong triumph said it was out off line and corrected it i rode off and about 1 hr later is started chirping again but even louder triumph told me to buy silicone spray and use it on rear spool i tried this it was ok for50 mile journey but on return it started again very loudly. Haven't ridden bike for months as noise makes riding a pain in the head. belt used to be very close to the inner edge and now is rubbing against the outer edge now thinking of selling bike due to this problem that triumph won't sort out.

I have a 2011 storm with the same problem, triumph said it was a known issue and wasn't covered under warranty. I had dealer replace cush drive thinking that was the issue at my own exspence, that didn't stop the belt chirp. Pretty shaby customer service.

Dallas Cantland: I've tried many lubricants and they all completely eliminate the noise...for one day. The owners manual says no lubrication is required and lubrication is not recommended. Fred: Actually after reviewing the literature they do not state 150,000 miles. Gates states that normal lifetime on a hard chrome pulley is 50,000 miles and Triumph wanted the pulleys to last as long as the belts...they do not say how long the Gates GT Carbon Fiber belt. But Gates developed the coating that would allow the aluminum pulleys to last as long at the belts. The Owner's manual that lists the service schedule goes out to 75,000 miles. I'm glad your 3rd set of tires and alignment solved your problem. I agree that the noise is not a safety issue but the fact that the bike is now eating the width of the belt at the rate of 1mm every 100 miles is. That won't go too long before the belt will snap. Also, I'm not demanding a recall based on the misbehavior of the first dealer, I just mentioned it because it is so tragic that any dealer would do this and Triumph would allow it. It's called a preponderance of the evidence. I've read that a couple of people got Triumph to buy their bikes back but you really have to jam them to get that. I'm going to jam them hard enough that they want a non-disclosure agreement in addition to the bike. I've got about 25 grand in this thing. Again, I love many things about the bike but this noise is simply unacceptable. I am hoping that Triumph will stand behind their product. I find it interesting that a company called Quiet Power Drives makes and keeps in stock a belt drive System which costs 850 plus tax and shipping and is a bolt on replacement for the stock parts. No mods to the bike required. This kit uses hard chromed pulleys and a Gates GT3 carbon fiber belt. And people buy it. I think I know why but I'm not going to buy one because I'll spend 1500 by the time it's installed.
