Here is a letter sent by us to Trip Advisor. It tells its own story. Dear Sir/Madam RE. No.1 Manvers Street This is the second time that Trip Advisor have posted a review from someone who has neither stayed with us, nor booked with us. The writer of the review ‘Terrible' (Dan ‘O’) has never, according to our records, even been in contact with us. We are also listed on Flip Key and they take the precaution of checking beforehand that the person who claims to have been a guest has actually stayed. They give the proprietor of the property in question 5 days to reply. We know this as we recently received an excellent review on their site for our property Friary Coach House which has 5 AA star rating. The guest who posted the most recent review claims we are an ‘hotel’ and to have met us in referring to us as ‘the people’. We are self-catering apartments and the guests let themselves in with a coded system and Masterkey. We seldom meet them, yet he infers strongly that he has met us. We certainly did not have any guest from the US in September, even if this is an alias. He refers to ‘this place’ in general terms and it is quite clear, from his lack of description, that he has not visited. This review was posted without reference to any proper protocol regarding defamation, in a careless and highly libellous manner. We refute every aspect of its content. Please remove both reviews or we will be consulting our lawyers. 'Natalie', the author of the previous review did not stay with us, or book with us either. Why people 'troll' mystifies all decent people, but Trip Advisor licences it.

They have no intention of doing anything, they are a destructive organisation that encourage people to write the most damaging things with no regard to the consequences, we have tried countless times to get things corrected, it is a total waste of time!

We find tripadvisor a dangerous weopan in the hands of some pretty nasty people, who will damage your business for a whole host of reasons, most of which are either petty, bargain hunters & people after freebies, professional complainers, tripadvisor are clever, to actually contact them is virtually impossible by design, like booking.com they have become too big & too powerfull and the hotel trade is too divided to combat them!

I am an owner of 3 properties. I mainly have 4 & 5 * rating. However, when there is a problem caused by guests I 'pick-up' the bill as it was my fault. I had 3 very bad, untrue reviews and took a year to fight back and get my rating up again! The truth is that guests like bad reviews and beleive them!

We run a family owned guest house on the Sea side. As we opened the first B&B in this area we were very successful. In this very beginning Tripadvisor helped us to get to the public. But with our success people just got jealous. To harm us they also added fake comments on tripadvisor. We got in contact with Tripadvisor, but they refuse to remove these comments. We even pointed out that we got proofs, these really bad comments are fake and clients never stayed at our premises. But Tripadvisor keeps to refuse and refuse… @ Kevin Oakley : I totally agree with your post, I feel and experience the same !

I have tried to contact Trip Advisor about an untrue and defamatory review put on my rental property and they have said they will not remove it. So I have asked that my listing IS REMOVED from a company that allows this to happen. I am so upset that this Company allow such untrue and damaging information to be placed publically, with my full name placed in this defamatory review. I am also annoyed that I cannot seem to cancel my listing altogether from the site without emailing first, then to find their email system is not working! I am so very upset. Mandy

TRIPADVISOR : an informative tool and a brilliant idea that could be really useful, is very often used for blackmails from the side of the clients and the fired staff against the F&B and accommodation businesses. YES to REAL reviews, NO to UNCONTROLLED reviews ! How ? Simply by logging in to the "review access point" of any "impressions" site like TripAdvisor, by using a scanned copy of the proof of receipt of the services ( using a scanner or the camera of a smartphone etc to "duplicate" the received: bill of the restaurant, ticket of the event, voucher or receipt of the hotel etc). THEN AND ONLY THEN, ONE CAN HAVE THE FREEDOM OF HIS OPIGNION.

as an employee of an establishment that is a part of Tripadvisor, which gives ppl the ability to bad mouth people w/o their consent or chance to tell the true story! I think its against my rights as an employee to have my name writen on TA!

Not only can they destroy your business by making unsolicited and without notice rules and changes, you cannot even remove your listing from their site when you are totally fed up with them. What they do instead is Red Flad your listing !!! Their Owners forum is totally useless and their so called forum experts replies are nothing more than body guards put there to shut us up when we have a complaint. They are sickening!

Tripadvisor is nothing more than blackmail bullying. Reviews need to come from unbiased reviewers. Funny how the folks who write bad reviews are the same ones who destroy motel furniture, check out late and can't stand the idea of paying full price for their motel room. thanks to tripadvisor they now have a voice.

TriipAdvisor has no right to profit from my business. I am tired by the fake reviews written by my competitors.
