I’ve witnessed a close friend of mine doing just this and the amount of skill that is involved is more than the average person would ever recognize.

I've been in the tree business for 5 years. It's not made for everyone! It's bizarre to think this is considered an unskilled trait!

If you think being an arborist (private or Line Clearance) is an unskilled job by all means throw on a set of spikes and prove it to me...

My late fiancé was a trimmer and it is absolutely a skilled trade. It’s not easy at all and extremely dangerous and when he trimmed power lines he was paid so little for what he was doing.

I did line clearance for 5 1/2 years thru IBEW. I recieved good training, but got burned out when the company kept changing the rules, putting more unnecessary stress on us. Went thru several General Foreman, because the company also made their jobs more stressful and couldn't keep anyone around. Now I work for myself and have more than enough work doing residential/commercial. Stay safe/keep learning! - C.MaRS

This guy makes a valid point way underpaid for the work we do! For many years I worked for big co.panies and got 20 and some change for FOREMAN pay thats ridiculous ive now been self employed for about ten years doing private work so I charge according but I been there (death buzzing to close to tranny lines)

I have realized that we are wrongfully classified when speaking to linemen. They truly believe we are more skilled then they are.

Think it is in skilled labor? Come spend a day climbing over 365000 volt lines a cut the branches that over hang them. Really no skill involved even a legislator could do it
