Those who work their life and pay taxes to live in a civilised society must be spared the grief of those who don't want to abide by the law and behave like anti social elements damaging the surroundings and creating disharmony.

Merton Council needs to remove the travellers and make sure the parks are inaccessible .

While I'm not "political" and don't know the intricacies of the law, I do find it very very unreasonable that my £ 142 council tax will leave my account this month - and then next month and the month after etc etc - along with the council tax of all my neighbours - and yet a group of travellers are permitted to set up camp on Cannon Hill Common (til they get moved on) then King George's Playing Fields (til they get moved on) then back to Cannon Hill Common - and so on and so forth. I am not opposed to the people per se but it is not right that they are permitted to do such. Setting up home on areas such as Cannon Hill Common is an invasion of the intention and purpose of the land in the sense that the few (who've set up camp there) ruin it for the many (the rest of us who pay our council tax). It is not fair and it is not right. Despite the intricacies of the law (whether a section 61 can be imposed or whether it cannot) surely preventing people from setting up home on such land cannot be that difficult!!?! Dig a trench / build a wall / do something! I am trusting that the council will receive this petition with the seriousness in which it is being sent - there are A LOT of extremely unhappy residents!

The council are in the process of an injunction, sending police or council staff onto site has to be done with a full risk assessment. The travellers will get onto any land if they want to, they are threatening to anyone trying to stop them. Best way forward in getting the injunction, neighbouring boroughs have found that it has helped reduce/ no encampments. Stop blaming politics this is a national issue in England.

Let’s have our Cannon Hill Common and other spaces in Merton protected from illegal trespassers and their resultant filth being cleaned up at the cost of the community. Immediate eviction and conviction where necessary should easily be achievable.

The fly tipping on Cannon Hill common was totally unacceptable and anti-social. The mess left at the Evans Autos site the first time had to be seen to be believed and took some time to clear. And then they returned to the site and did the same thing again! All clearing up costs are not borne by the perpetrators and there seems to be no deterrent for them. Maybe I’m missing something?

We have to stop this reoccurring situation. The perimeter of the common needs action to stop any further entries!

Just hate the way travellers move in, destroy the place, leave filth and poo everywhere and then move out.

get these so called travellers out of our borough now. If they have vehicles they must have motor insurance therefore must have a home address

Dont let our public spaces become dumping grounds for "pikeys/travellers/gypsies" whatever cultural title they choose to flout the law under. Change local government policies to take back control of these open spaces so tax payers are not covering the cleanup after they are finally evicted from wherever they are illegally squatting. Where they continue to break in ensure they are financially penalised and their vehicles impounded. The law is currently a joke, punishing your average jo bloggs for dropping a fag butt but letting fly tipping and raw sewage disposal, on public and private land by this particular "cultural group", go unpunished!! No wonder residents are furious and politicians/local government are no longer considered fit for purpose. Start listening to your constituents and their concerns regarding issues that affect us directly. The glib way residents are treated by merton council disgusts me
