After graduation the journey of a university student does not end, in many ways it is only just beginning. Graduates enter the workforce and some graduates contemplate further study as a post graduate student. Those entering the workforce continue to need to learn to be able to adapt to a new workplace, they need to remain up to date with current research. Those wishing to continue with post graduate studies need to research into topics for their future study.
Unlike many other universities, the current situation with the University of New England is that graduating students no longer enjoy library or email privileges. Those who have deferred or who are not currently enrolled for post graduate study have no access to these services. Many other universities offer library and email services for 12 months or more for their Alumni. Some universities allow their Alumni to pay a small user fee for such services years after graduation. UNE Alumni enjoy no such privileges.
This petition is to appeal to UNE to expand Alumni privileges so that UNE graduates can remain competitive in a post-graduation workplace, and to encourage further study among those students by enabling them to use the library and email services to research study topics and to be able to approach supervisors.
Alumni should have their UNE emails for life. In this way, the university can easily keep in contact and students can keep in contact with each other. Please allow alumni to enjoy library privileges. If UNE wants to foster a relationship with alumni these two things would form a basis.
