on walking my daughter to school this morning, 28 march, myself and another parent were involved in near miss at the top of beaudesert junction to shawhurst lane. seriously this junction is screaming out for a proper crossing or a crossing person. when crossing you are approached by traffic from 3 different directions, some of which at considerable speed. great school, grealt

the need for traffic calming measures in Shawhurst Lane in Wythall is imperative. Our children attending the school where I'm a trustee and Chair of Governors at the Coppice Primary need to stop the danger due to drivers speeding and using the foot path as a road. The petition must be done for the County Council for the following action:- A Zebra crossing, install speed bumps, lower the speed to 20 mph in Shawhurst Lane. The County Council may say a fatality has to happen before any further measures can be taken. Our children are too valuable to be sacrificed! Please support this. from Councillor Mark Bullivant District Councillor of Bromsgrove District and Chair of Governors at the Coppice School

Something needs to be done before anything bad happens, but putting an entrance outside an OAP home is ridiculous, there supposed to be enjoying a quiet life now, not having hundreds of kids and parents outside there homes twice a day 5 days a week, and in a cul de sac that doesn't have enough parking in since the council decided it would be a good idea to build 6 more houses and a block of flats, again, they were thinking of OUR elderly when they were doing this, being an old student at woodrush and knowing how little the fields are used maybe they should think about more parking there, it needs to be done sooner rather than later.

I am a working parent who, like many others, needs to drop my child to school before continuing on to work. Since the closure of the Coppice car park to Coppice parents, the traffic congestion on local roads has significantly worsened. With the planned expansion of the Coppice in Sept 2014, this situation can only get worse. Last year I witnessed an impatient taxi driver overtake a line of cars which had stopped to allow the crossing lady to escort the children across Shawhurst Lane. I can only assume he mistook it for a line of parked cars or had no regard whatsoever for the safety of the children or crossing lady. He naturally met oncoming traffic the other way! I reported this to the council as it could have caused a fatality. Atleast 2 crossings are needed at the absolute least. It's no good councils and schools telling us all to walk if the safety measures are not in place.

This is long overdue but how disgraceful that one of our children has to die before the Council will act.

When my children attended this school (and they are now 28 & 30) I witnessed a young girl get run over. She had a fractured pelvis and was off school poorly for weeks. How can they justify themselves by waiting for a fatality. Would they say that if it was one of their children or grandchildren going to the school? Disgraceful!! Shame on you local council

Just to let you know, I have had a letter back from our MP, he is taking the issue up with the chief executive of Worcester cc highways. He added that he was very concerned with the comments made by the council in relation to 'a fatality before anything was considered'. He will write back when he has a response.

Just to say, i think this is a very worthwhile cause. i have emailed worcester council to tell them what i think of their response. I am not happy that some faceless civil servant can make a decision over the safety and welfare of my children. i have also copied in local press and tv and our conservative MP who is currently in office. Not suprisingly i have not heard anything back from the council.... no suprise there. i have however had an initial response from the office of tge MP, i will let you know of any developments. it would be good if you could all email worcester council copying in local press and our MP, with enough emails it would be hard for them to ignore our concerns. Oh i have also asked for number of fatalities in the county before traffic calming measures were introduced, if you ask for this information under the freedom of information act, they cannot refuse.

Excellent point, we fully want the support of local residents, wreckless inconsiderate parking by parents only makes the situation worse.
I get up every morning drive 2 miles to school, park safely then walk my little one to school, then the nightmare begins, dodging cars driving at me on the pavement, trying to cross the road safely, then have a parent decide to drive and park on the single yellow lines while we are on the path just so they can get has close to the school as possible. We all need to take responsibility or all of this will be for nothing.

On two separate occasions some idiot has parked their car on the footpath resulting me having to go around the car with a 4 year old and my baby in his pram and the parent who parked their car was running late to pick their child up from school what ever next!!!! Something needs to be done to sort the traffic problem out.
