Protect TPSS Co-op & Avoid Gridlock!

This is a Plan for Disaster. And it is very dangerous for our beautiful community.

Any new development should not threaten the Coop’s survival!

Takoma Park is awesome.! Keep it that way!!

Of all places, you should know that development is Not nessesarily progress. Who is this Really Benifiting, the people of the community, or the developers???

The coop needs to be accommodated! If the beloved and unique coop dies, that would NOT be the neighbors' preference at all. This venue is a reference point for the whole neighborhood.

Please listen to concerned community members and stop this plan!

Poplar Avenue

This plan clearly spells the demise of the co-op of which I have been a member for more than 30 years.

I live on Ethan Allen Ave. Yesterday, I saw cars jump the curb to give room to an ambulance. This plan will make traffic even worse.

I'm extremely disappointed with the Council plan to heavily disregard the safety concerns with this development. As gentrification grows arounf Takoma Park, we should protect all of our citizens by providing affordable living. This plan does not support our neighbors or ourselves.

I am asking that the council vote NO on this plan. The design for access from the main street is a mess of a plan. The junction is already a problem, why anyone in their right mind would imagine that adding a loading lane would help matters is beyond scope. Please have the designers and MoCo work together to fix the intersection and improve the development.

As a resident who lives two blocks from the junction, I am especially concerned about (1) additional traffic on already overburdened streets, (2) the badly placed truck lay-by, which will be hazardous to bicyclists, pedestrians and other vehicles and will ruin any attempt to make the development aesthetically pleasing, and (3) the lack of any meaningful public space on land that I thought the City purchased to benefit its citizens.

Listen to the people not the developers!

This development, as currently planned, seems to have more disadvantages than advantages for the TP community.

Yes to development! And Yes to the Coop and open space!

Revitalization of the junction has been an issue for years, and I've been in favor of it. This should NOT include large development that overshadows what residents already appreciate about the junction, including the co-op. Traffic problems already exist, so let's not make a dangerous situation even worse! There are many, many safety issues at risk. Fix the traffic situation first, then find alternatives that will keep public land in public hands. Listen to what the residents are saying and don't let NDC's private profit dictate our community's desires.

It is amazing that the City Council has so blatantly disregarded the findings of its own citizen task force from 5 years ago, which laid out a community-based vision which would cost much less and be much better grounded in the actual desires of community members, as determined by more than 100 residents participating in a series of resident-organized focus group meetings. Hundreds of hours and voices were involved in this. And it is all disregarded in favor of a development that would harm the co-op and other local businesses.

The NDC plans for Takoma Junction are unacceptable on many levels and the City Council must vote NO and rethink the development of this vitally important space in the community. The Coop's future viability is threatened by this plan - this important community resource must be preserved. The traffic problems will seriously compromises public safety and emergency response. Raising rents are likely to threaten existing local businesses and limit the possibility of local businesses to occupying the planned new spaces.
