Thank you for taking the time to read this petition. As you know Tim and I own a small restaurant in Vienna. We chose Vienna because it felt like a "community" in which small businesses could succeed. We are grateful that we have been open for 2 years and that we are doing well . But, we have seen so many of our fellow small business owners come and go in the past 2 years.  The latest casualty being:  "The Soundry", a place where the creative could unleash and create is now closed.  Certainly a sign of the economy however, we know that a little of support from the town government would give small businesses a better chance to succeed in such times.  We are asking for a better partnership between TOV government and locally owned and operated small businesses.  Please help us bring this to their attention by signing the petition below and by getting others to sign.

There are many things that TOV can do to support small businesses such as:

-dedicate a section of their website to locally owned and operated small businesses

-dedicate a section of the town facebook page to locally owned and operated small businesses

-highlight a "small business" of the week/month on social media, tov website and newsletter

-form a team of advisors for small business such as the Arlington Economic Development group in Arlington, VA (provide guidance to small businesses)

-demand that the chamber of commerce of tysons corner have lower membership fees for small businesses

-encourage town employees to visit locally owned and operated businesses rather than chains through a rewards program

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for signing our petition.

I have spent this week speaking with several neighboring shop owners about the challenges they face in our town center. It is clear that the struggle to maintain a presence here is shared by many of us who chose this community for our livelihoods.

Seeing this conversation grow reinforces how many people truly care about the character of our town. The momentum we have built reflects a shared desire for a more intentional approach to keeping our local economy vibrant.

Bring back the life to the streets. Stop making it so difficult for owners to just keep their doors open.

RIP The Soundry. That place was a gem. We have to keep our local spots alive before the town turns into a ghost town of empty storefronts.

It is so hard for little places to compete with the big guys. A little bit of promo from the town would go a long way. Common sense really.

Vienna is losing its character. Every time I turn around another shop is shuttered. The town needs to actually help instead of just taking taxes.
