Frankly escooters should not be allowed on pedestrian walkways they are a huge hazard. This is not allowed in Maryland and it should be the same here.

Both e scooters and cyclists (and now even regular scooters) are taking over pedestrian space and are dangerous for the elderly kids and puppies. Get them off the walkways.

E-Scooters are a transportation business and need to be regulated as such.
E scooter riders should be:
1) subject to the same traffic rules as passenger vehicle operators;
2) required to have a license to operate an e scooter and to have the license on his or her person when operating the e scooter;
3) required to observe traffic lights and signs as passenger vehicle operators are;
4) required to wait at cross walks for pedestrians;
5) presumed liable in the event of a collision with a pedestrian in the same way a passenger vehicle operator is.

Scooters will make senior citizens like myself afraid to walk on the sidewalks. At least force them to ring their bell before passing. Is that too much to ask?

Based on the lack of enforcement of cars parked where rush hours prohibit them and food trucks parked illegally, I'm quite despondent about the potential for the city to enforce any moving device of any kind. BUT I hope the city can hear the pleas of Walkers who are being terrorized by scooters on sideWALKS.

All scooters must be banned from the city. As the city is unwilling to limit or control usage and these companies making the scooters will not either, they cannot be used. They are dangerous to residents.

As a DC resident, taxpaper, driver and pedestrian, I strongly urge that escooters be banned from sidewalks, and stiffer laws in their regulation.

I agree with the sidewalk ban but do not subscribe to the proposed penalties and incentives, particularly vigilante confiscation. The city needs to create a procedure for removal and fines for companies whose scooters are left in locations unsafe for pedestrians.

Scooters need more regulation and oversight. This must include more money for protected bike lanes to keep the bikes and scooters off the sidewalk.
This city needs to negotiate with scooter companies to help pay for safety improvements.

I see many close calls of scooters and bikes nearly hitting pedestrians every day as I walk in Georgetown and downtown. If you walk, please stay on the far right of the sidewalk, and don't move left without looking first for a vehicle approaching from behind. You can't hear them coming. There needs to be a ban on sidewalk riding and vigorous enforcement.

It would be helpful if the scooters had to have docking stations like a lot of the bikes. The scooter are left all over the sidewalk.
