They actually listened and decided to keep every single one of those community centres open. I am honestly still in shock that the doors will stay unlocked for the kids and the yoga classes and the ball hockey because it felt like they were never going to budge on this. …
The City of Toronto has announced it will be ending all of its programming at 12 community centres, shutting the doors to all the kids and adults who play and learn there. No more ball hockey, no more yoga, no more babysitting courses, no more T-Ball, no more karate. This will be a devastating blow in many areas. The community centres are : Bloordale CS, Brown CC, Earl Beatty CC, Fairmount Park CC, Hillcrest CC, James S. Bell CS, John English CS, John G. Althouse CS, Keele CC, McNicoll CC, The Elms CS, and Thistletown CC. Sign here to tell Mayor Rob Ford and Toronto City Council to change their mind and keep the doors of this valuable play space open. Let us play! (If you are asked for a donation, please hit CANCEL)
I just checked the count and saw we hit 500 signatures which honestly feels surreal because I started this just hoping a few neighbors would notice. It makes me think about all the kids and the yoga classes and the ball hockey games that might actually have a fighting chance now that people are paying attention.

This is so disappointing. We rely on the yoga classes to keep us sane and the kids programs are essential for working parents. Do better.

Use to go to Earl Beatty all the time when I was a kid. Sad to see the city doesnt care about these places anymore.

My kids have karate at Bloordale every Tuesday. This keeps them out of trouble and active. You cant just take away the only thing they have to do in this neighborhood.
