Councillors Jaye Robinson and Karen Stintz
Honourable Mayor Rob Ford

We would like to voice our disappointment at the recent news that the City of Toronto plans to cut community programming and funding at the Bedford Park Public School and Community Centre pool. This pool has been a valuable and much loved resource for this community for years. The loss of this pool, in fact any of the TDSB leased pools by the City, would have a tremendous impact on our students, community partners, neighbourhoods and the larger community.

We understand that the city is in the process of re-evaluating budget expenses. We also understand that this process will include significant cuts to programming available through the city. However, we feel that the negotiation process, authorized by the Mayor's office, has been cut short for no apparent reason and without any advance notification to the public.

As such, we request that you return the issue of TDSB pool leases to the public forum and an open discussion. The process which is already in place has proven very successful in past negotiations. It should be allowed to continue as an open dialogue which considers all factors, including input from community stakeholders.

Please allow the voices of your constituents to be heard.

My kids learned to swim in this pool and I refuse to let the city shut it down without a fight. We are getting very near the hundred signature mark so please post this link on your social media right now to help us cross that line.

Watching the numbers climb reminds me of all the afternoons I spent at that pool with my own kids. We are nearly at our goal and I need you to reach out to one person who uses this facility to keep our momentum going before the council reviews these cuts.

Need more transparency from the city on this. We deserve to know why they want to cut our services before they just do it.

Please keep the pool open. It is the only affordable place for seniors to get some exercise around here.

What are they thinking? Cutting community space is never the right answer. Fix the budget somewhere else.

Ridiculous decision. This is where everyone goes in the summer. Stop taking away stuff we actually use.
