Administators are now being payed soley to take student's Ipods and phones. There is a rumor going around that whichever teacher or administrator collects the most devices, gets a bonus at the end of the year. Tell me, wouldn't you want to be able to contact your family if there was a tragedy at our shcool, or in our state? They are now allowed to take Ipods and phones simply if they see it in your pocket, or headphones slightly hanging out. I am a well rounded student, about average. I do not use my phone in school, as well as many other students. One fellow student had her Ipod taken as she was walking in the door, but she was putting it away. Another, was rolling up the headphones and she had hers taken. For not giving them up, we recieve three day's suspension. Is taking an Ipod or phone really worth taking a students schooling for the next three days? The administrators are trying to say it is for OUR good, and OUR schooling. How could it help when we gets SIPS for having them 'out' and suspension for not giving them up? Bottom line, this rule is hurting more than it is helping. Day by day, more students are resenting going to school. Day by day, more kids are being punished for ridiculous things such as having a device in hand, like switching to a different bag, or even putting it away. Can you really tell me that this is fair? With the help of this petition and hopefully media coverage, I am trying to get this absurd new policy abolished, in hopes to restore peace to Kecoughtan High School.
