As a member of IATSE Local 798 I support this proposal to initiate Tony Award categories Hair and Wig Design as well as a category for Makeup Design as well. Many Costume design winner acknowledge their success to a large extent to the Wig, Hair, and/or Makeup designers! It's high time to officially acknowledge them.

Wig designers and make-up artists help to create key aspects of some of your favorite characters looks. Without them there is no completed looks on stage. It's definitely about time they get their roses too!

As a professional Costume Artist, I absolutely support recognizing Hair and Make Up for outstanding work in their respective fields. It’s insulting to ignore two departments who help create the total look of a production.

I’ve been an advocate for the addition of hair/wig design in theater! It took the Motion Picture Academy until 1981 but they eventually added it. That was 42 years ago! It’s long past due that the Tonys recognize this artistry. As as side note, (these designs are maintained and recreated regularly by the crew to retain the integrity of the original designs. Give recognition to the talented and hard working designers! (and crew).

The proper wig deign is essential to complete overall look for each character on stage. A Tony Award category for these artisans is long overdue.
