Chabad School Zoning Board Hearing (that was originally to be held Oct.22nd) ”The applicant is seeking Use Variance and Minor Site Plan approval so as to establish a school facility as an additional use within the existing single family dwelling,” according to the zoning board agenda. The proposed school would use an existing residential driveway and an existing parking lot with 10 spaces, as well as utilities connections that already exist, according to the agenda.
The property currently has a private home on it, and is in an R/C-3 zone -- a Conservation Residential Zone, which does not allow schools, according to Toms River’s zoning ordinances. The variance is being sought under the ”public utilities” conditional use category.
The variance application has generated considerable attention and caused a significant outcry among residents.
The outcry has included at least one online petition, which had more than 4895 signatures as of Sunday afternoon, with signers expressing concerns about traffic, impact on property values and the fairness of allowing someone to convert a residential property into a religious use that would become tax exempt.

I have lived on Church Road for about 37 years. I have seen the traffic increase. This would be adding so much more. It is an inappropriate area for this school. The zoning needs to remain the same.

No one should be able to have a residential home rezoned as a place of worship in order to not pay taxes. Where does it end then? I pray in my home too. But I pay taxes. This model destroyed Lakewood.

The seniors in our area our carrying all these tax exempt buildings . We worked hard to get our pensions for ourselves to live on. It is an insult to the hard working people of this area to have to feel the burden of these schools. Let them work the 25 years plus and then give a portion of that money to pay for free loaders. Work for it and then its your right to build it and maintain it, NOT US!

Please preserve the community....We do not need another tax exemption and it is obvious that there will be road congestion that will only get worse as the school expands...and it will expand....
