The Orthodox Jewish community in Lakewood has essentially driven that town into the ground. We don't need them doing that to surrounding areas.

I was previously a resident to Lakewood now in TR. I went to the public schools. They are in dire need of funding and support. I can't bear to watch that happen again in Toms River.

I agree with the petition too.Traffic congestion,residential areas,property values,taxes revenue.You buy an house to raise an family ,send your children to public schools,use parks,Township services,everyone should pay no matter what you do for an living.Taxes are important for our town .

I agree with everything posted within the petition. Increased traffic on church road would be detrimental to the community, and it is fiscally irresponsible (if not also ethically questionable) to allow tax exempt religious/school buildings to function in an area defined by law as residential.

Really how is it possible these people and I mean no disrespect are getting away with this they taken over Lakewood Nj and talk about not liking other cultures they won't even let any other cultures go to their schools or even they won't hirer people of other cultures to work for them Really We need to rethink this Really thank you for your time ......

Why can't Jews drive on Saturday?
Jews can drive on Saturday, provided it is after sunset. The Jewish Sabbath goes from just before sunset Friday evening to about an hour after sunset on Saturday. If a Jew is in a city where the sun sets at 5 p.m. on Saturday, then he can drive around town Saturday evening.
During our Sabbath and certain holy days, we do not use motor vehicles because our religious laws teach us not to do creative work on the Sabbath. Creative work would be done by using a car: 1) a light comes on when one opens the car door, and we don't create light on the Sabbath; 2) to start a car, we ignite an engine. In doing so, we spark a flame. We don't light fire on the Sabbath.
If the Town says 'yes' for the Chabad, then there will be people coming to your homes and asking "Is your house on sale?". If they buy houses, they will be building multifamily houses that are all over Lakewood. Don't make it a CITY!!!

My concerns about this variance request is that this is beginning of turning Toms River into another Lakewood - where traffic is deplorable, housing development is out of control, and the tax base has been decimated by groups hiding behind a tax loophole which permits worship places to be tax exempt. The only way, it seems to me, to stem this abuse is for Toms River to pass zoning requiring houses of worship to be separate from residential spaces. So whether you are Christian or Jewish or whatever, you can't conduct bible studies or prayer services in your home and thus say your home is a place of worship and therefore tax exempt. Property taxes pays for roads and many other public services which we all use, whether you are Christian, secular, Jewish or visiting from Mars, so everyone should pay their fair share.

It's still not over, based on info in APP. "The zoning board rejected Rabbi Moshe Gourarie's contention that the Jewish Center is a permitted use in the residential zone where it is located.
The board's decision means Gourarie must now seek a use variance that will allow him to continue operating the center. A 2009 revision to the township's zoning ordinance banned churches in the residential zone that includes Gourarie's property.The date for a hearing on the Chabad's use variance request will be set at the Jan. 14 zoning board meeting." Mark your calendars for Jan. 15 to see when next hearing is set. Perhaps the Chabad can re-locate into one of the new locations approved for construction by Lakewood Planning Board last meeting for 2015.

At its final meeting of 2015 - and one of its busiest of the year - the Planning Board Tuesday approved three major projects in the southern end of town totaling more than 300 units.
Because the units can have basement apartments, more than 600 new households are possible.

The donation website (https://www.charidy.com/chabadoftomsriver) has raised over 75,000 to date. The website has a description of "help us GROW" (GROW in large bold). It appears the members/parishioners you have, raised 75,000 in a little over a month (very impressive). Rabbi, do you not think its reasonable and feasible to assume, that if deemed necessary, these same members/parishioners that raised over 75,000 dollars in a little over a month, could help contribute to the 6,000 (or so) in property taxes? Also if deemed necessary could this 75,000 raised help contribute towards any back taxes or fined deemed necessary?
