To Stagecoach: stop huge bus fare rises for children in Exeter (keep £1 child add-ons) 2018

If it's too expensive for children their parents won't travel with them.

We won't be able to travel on the bus as much as we do already if the price increase goes ahead.

I'm appalled at this. As a 1 car family living in Bradninch I rely on the £1 child add one to leave our town with my children as my husband needs the car for work. This hike in child prices would mean we would be unable to visit family in Exeter without using our car as the cost for travel is already high for a 30 minute journey. This increase will leave a lot if families stranded and isolated, particularly for those of us on the outer edges of Exeter. I'm very concerned at this. If I had the option to take the car it would also mean I'd be unlikely to use the bus as paying for a day's car parking would be much more cost effective than taking the bus with 2 children. I don't see how this will not increase traffic congestion & air pollution which will have a detrimental effect on the road infrastructure & air quality along with social implications for lower earners who cannot afford to run two cars.

Totally outrageous. If ever there was a time to get people out of their cars and on to public transport this is it. Instead, such price increases will only add to traffic by pricing those who use public transport off, and no increase in revenue for Stagecoach. A Very bad move. Any increase in prices over and above inflation, CPI, RPI or whatever should be illeagle. We need more competition to discourage such price hikes. As it is Stagecoach (along with First) hold the reins over large swathes of the UK's public transport network and seem to be able to do exactly as they please without any repercussions.Free travel for under 18s in London, why not the whole of the UK, including school buses. If not this, then certainly no more than £1 for children & £5 for adults to travel anywhere within a short distance of say less than 30 miles.

This will hurt the whole network and I know many people that will be forced off the buses cause they can't afford it.

Price of getting my 3 high school aged children to school across Exeter will increase from £30 weekly I currently pay to £45 weekly.

i visit here to see my grandchildren and use this service.

This will double my fares each week and that is on school days only. Will be cheaper to take the car from now on

I'm not paying £3 per child, unbelievable of stagecoach!! Picking on the disadvantaged AND families?!

This is going to cause families who rely on the bus to get to school massive problems. Imagine a mum with just two kids to get to school. It will be ten pound per day, fifty a week. Thats two hundred a month....would be cheaper to run a car. Imagine a mum with three or four children who have to get the bus to school.

Seriously. Stop makkng bus fair prices higher they are already too high. Not being funny by goverment is bekng cheeky here asking for even more money. Keep the child add on it never hurt anyone

We are supposed to be reducing air pollution, reducing cars and carbon emissions by using public transport. So they make it completely impossible for families to use them. Where 1 parent and 3 children had cost £6.80 and now it will £13.00! It’s all about Profits.

Absolute madness, in a time where people should be encouraged to use public transport. Prices are already ridiculous without this increase.

As someone who helped to negotiate the add-on fare originally with the former MD, I am utterly disgusted the company is acting in this way. It is a total injustice and will have a huge impact on families across the city. It also completely undermines their green credentials - we need to be encouraging people onto buses to address air pollution, congestion and climate change - this will just drive them away into cars. The company are also misleading the public, saying they are 'introducing' a Child dayrider for £3. Lies. That ticket already exists! All they are doing is scrapping the £1 add-on and forcing families to buy a child dayrider instead. Yes, they are introducing a new £8 group ticket, but that will only be cheaper than the current ticketing arrangements for a family of 4. For single parents travelling with a single child the fare hike is from £4.90 to £7! Quite outrageous. Anyone up for getting a group of children travelling on buses with placards, asking passengers to sign the petition let me know. A bit of direct action needed it seems! abellATphonecoop.coop I am sure the Express and Echo would be pleased to cover the story!

Improve the service not increase the price!

Please keep the child £1 add on fare, if fares go up for children, many families including my own will have to stop using the service as it will simply be unaffordable. We will be forced to walk instead, avoid days out to places we would normally get the bus or get the train to Exeter instead. It will have a big impact on lots of people. Please keep the £1 child add on!!!
