It is disgraceful that since The Hague convention that there have been so few adoptions. There are so many people that have been through the adoption process and far to many children waiting for a home. This is dragging on far too long.

Children in need of loving homes are being prevented from being matched with families who are ready, more than willing and well able to provide the loving, stable home they need because of unnecessary red tape. This is completely unacceptable.

It feels like the adoption is totally unrealistic in the current state of affairs. It needs to be changed and provide homes to children who really need it.

As a prospective parent with a declaration gathering dust, I feel that serious ICA reform is required. We need to actually put childrens interests first.
We are blessed to have a family, my heart breaks for those not so lucky.

Prospective parents have to go through an incredible journey. There are waiting lists, which sometimes can take up to three years. The waiting period is then followed by a lengthy and very demanding process in which prospective parents have to justify the reasons for their choice, their finances, their health and personal choices. If this was not tough enough they are no countries where anyone can adopt from. This situation needs to change and prospective adoptive parents need to be allowed to adopt children who need a family and who are currently in orphanages. Serious effort need to be made to re-open adoptions from countries like Ethiopia and Russia.

I adopted my wonderful daughter from China when I was almost 47. There should be no age limit imposed on adoptive parents. Singleprospective adoptive parents should be encouraged to adopt.
