Giving the patient a phone number to call (which is never answered yes a pharmacist) does not meet the law.

I've worked for both of the largest pharmacy chains in the United States. I have stood witness to declining patient care and intolerable working conditions. Please help our profession enforce employers to ensure the legal requirements are being met. Most pharmacists working for chains are forced to sign documents to maintain employment knowing that they can not possibly comply with all the documents signed. Pharmacists are no longer provided with the tools and staffing needed to safely fill prescriptions. Pharmacy employers no longer help the pharmacists limit distractions and have opened up the pharmacies to the detriment of patient care.

Corporate metrics are causing pharmacists to not dedicate themselves to keeping our patients safe. There are only so many hours in a day, and with more "goals" (aka higher script count with minimal help, flu clinics, higher immunization goals, doctor detailing, etc) we don't have enough time to spend going over durs and counseling properly.

I want to thank everyone who signed this petition. Your signatures, both online and written, were delivered to our BOP in person and that was followed by about an hour worth of conversation. It is reasonable to assume that there is a general agreement that something needs looked at with respect to OBRA compliance and they already had a meeting set for July to talk about it. It will be open to the public for those who would like to attend. Thanks again to those who have taken the time to understand this issue...we petition our government for a redress of grievance because of it. Hook up to me on FB to stay updated.

The dispensing of prescription medications has to challenged and changed. Stricter laws need to be upgraded as to the amount of drugs dispensed and by whom. The prescriptions themselves need to be reviewed for their use and for how long. Street drugs are less expensive these days and easier to obtain.

The VERY high rates of Rx's filled absolutely preclude R.Ph. involvement in patient care.. OSBP should protect the public by interceding and stopping thee high Rx rates. It is nonsensical to say it can be done..By the same token if R.Ph.'s are released from high volumes they should mandatorily counsel patients for adherence, disease awareness, drug-drug interactions etc.

I agree, Nancy, it's heroin we are seeing but only because the pills are becoming more difficult to get. About 75% of heroin addicts began on pain pills and I think we are surprised by just how many there are. The pain meds were predictable doses and now they have to turn to street dealers. Our Board of Pharmacy has done a great job trying to shut off the spigot but it has not been easy. Some of these numbers we are seeing are because of their increased enforcement. Thanks for commenting! I had Dr. Ohr speak at RCO and he explains it pretty well. Best - Ray https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5elVkhcKa4
