Stop the IOW council bringing in the ban of dogs in public spaces

There are far more responsible dog owners than irresponsible, stop penalising us. I love our beach dog walks with a hot cuppa at the cafes

I read the council document and was unclear whether this ban is all year round on our beaches or just the summer months as per the current dog ban. Most beaches are empty in the winter months except for dog walkers. Be such a shame to never let our dogs have a run on an empty beach.

Maybe try banning thugs instead of picking on innocent animals

Absolutely ridiculous banning our dogs from the beaches and open spaces. Our dogs are part of our families and we pay our council tax so should be able to enjoy our freedom. Just catch the people who don’t pick up after their dogs, that’s all you have to do. Incidentally, it is bad enough that we can’t go on some beaches for half of the year, without a total ban. The dog community will rise up and banish you silly lot of councillors if you are not careful and you will be out of jobs and will lose your huge pay packets. Get on and do something useful, for goodness sake.

Visited IoW for the first time earlier this year with our dog and were delighted with how friendly, and dog friendly everyone is there. Banning dogs from public places will ruin it.

This is nonsense, who thought of this and why? People who don't clear up after their dogs are a nuisance but so are people who drop litter and fly tip, why punish responsible dog owners and visitors by restricting our movement. and enjoyment of public areas, where WE keep an eye on our surroundings and report any issues which could affect the public and are a reassuring presence for other people.

I am completely shocked by this crazy notion of the councils. How can they stop us walking our dogs on our beaches. This Island is a wonderful place to be shared by everyone. They have no idea what impact this would have on people’s lives. I have met so many people through dog walking, some of whom are elderly and do not see many people. A chat on the beach means the world to them. We are supposed to welcome people to the Island not put them off coming. I just cannot understand where this has come from. I know there are a few bad dog owners who are not responsible and don’t clear up after their dogs but they are in the minority. I really hope the Council reconsider this terrible idea.

just hope they see sense so many wont go to isle of wight if this ban is brought into force...

As a dog owning visitor to the Island, I wish to state that I shall not return if this proposal is ratified

As long as everyone cleans up after their dog Then people should be able to walk them on beaches Nothing nicer then seeing them running in the sea

We are visitors of the IOW and we canto y believe that the cousin would have come up with this outrageous idea to ban dogs from over 45 public areas. This not only would stop us from visiting but it would stop many other families from coming. Before we had our dog we loved going to the beach to play and meet other dogs. This ban would also discourage those who don’t have dogs. There would be far fewer visitors to those beaches and it would create a downfall domino effect on business in housing in jobs. But above all it will destroy the lovely areas and the health benefits of those who do and don’t have dogs to visit these beaches

Perhaps the council should worry more about the island roads than penalising pets

That is ridiculous. Think of mental health people need to reassure from the dog to prevent anxiety. What about horse ride along the beaches? Assistance dog needs to be with the recipient to go to the beaches. Remember the song called: All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all. Not stamp down by scrooge council!! Come one we need to be equality in human and animals!

This is absolutely ridiculous. This is and always has been a dog friendly island. This will affect holiday makers visiting the island which will affect so many businesses! Shame on you.

Why ruin the island’s dog friendly reputation for holiday makers and residents alike? Makes no sense whatsoever.

Thinking around Mental Health awareness - dog walking for those who suffer from this issue and those we meet through walking our dogs - this is a well-being activity - more focus should be on outdoors -also dog walkers can also be on lookout/alert to vulnerable people who are out in the community - Also much litter is deposited by a wide variety of people - dog walkers - like car drivers seem to be targeted - IOW to re-think this one.

This is a terrible idea, especially in the winter. Dogs need a safe place to be able to run around.

As stated we are supposed to be a dog friendly island. I support not allowing dogs on some beaches in the summer, but not off season. How will this be funded, will there be dog a dog warden on each of the 49 proposed banned areas?
