Stop the IOW council bringing in the ban of dogs in public spaces

For a beautiful island that relies heavily on tourism this is a very bad idea and will certainly cause people to reconsider their holiday destination

I object to this dog ban and therefore have signed the petition

IOW is a brilliant place for a holiday with the dog I would hate it if the ban was to come in as couldn’t then do much with the dog while away it would suck!

I think banning dogs would be a big mistake, I visit the island from East Sussex for family holidays as we absolutely love the place, but to then be restricted where to take a family pet would certainly put a downer on a happy time, even when using an amazing pet sitter, why should a dog be banned, I could understand enforcing stricter fines for poo that is left, even hiring people to start a poop patrol, I think if people are seen to be patrolling it would act as a big deterrent to any fouling or damage

A ban will do nothing to prevent dog fouling by the minority of resident and visiting dog owners who refuse to clear up. It merely penalises responsible owners and pushes the problem somewhere else. Enforcing the existing fines for dog walkers who do not clear up or allow their dogs to be a nuisance is a a better way of tacking the problem.

Another unbelievable, ridiculous IOW council idea. It’s time they were banned!

I don't have a dog, but they certainly do not bother me when I see them on the beach /in the park and the owners I see ALWAYS clean up after their dogs... I feel there is more dog fouling along the pavements then in the areas listed.

Many people who have dogs live alone or are elderly. The only time they get to talk to someone is while they are walking their dog. In addition they feel safe walking in the areas where the council wants to impose the bans. By banning dogs the council is going to increase the isolation for many of these people. It is a minority of dog owners who do not pick up after their dogs, these bans will not change those people, all it will do is move the problem to the streets and increase the amount of poo on the pavements. Where I used to live people didn’t have anywhere to walk their dogs except on the streets and you couldn’t take two steps without having to avoid poo on the pavement. The council are punishing the majority of dog owners because a minority can’t be bothered to pick up poo. This Island relies on the tourist trade, people come to the Island with their dogs because it is such a dog friendly place. They will simply take their money elsewhere if they can no longer walk their dogs off lead on beaches or green spaces. Dogs need areas where they can be exercised safely. Are the council going to provide the Islands dog owners and visitors with an alternative safe area where we can exercise our dogs? If it is just a cost cutting exercise ie to save money by not emptying poo bins as often, it is not going to work. The dogs will generate the same amount of poo regardless of where they can be walked and that poo will still have to be disposed of. As a council tax payer I object to the council extending the current bans beyond what we currently have.

Another mad decision. Dog lovers holiday in this country to bring their dogs with them. What a way to kill off tourists coming here. The beach is empty in the winter except for dog walkers. People make mess not dogs. Banning dogs off leads at St. Helens duver is also laughable. I’ve never seen anyone there without a dog. Oh how much money will you all lose on parking charges if you stop the dog walkers. Silly people. Shame on you.

Ridiculous! The council is ruining this beautiful island. Not only with this affect locals, it will have a huge effect on our tourism!

Ridiculous! Lost revenue for local cafes & I take it they'll be banning horses too?

In a world where we are finally beginning to appreciate our connection with animals this unnecessary act would be archaic.

Why on earth would you wany to do this and alienate a huge percentage of the british population. Dogs are part of our families and our way of life, please don't make it impossible to enjoy our whole family

I can’t believe they are thinking of doing this, I have spoken to a lot of holiday makers this summer, who have said what a dog friendly island we have , and the council want to spoil this

Shan’t be visiting The Isle Of White again. How mean can you get!

So many holiday makers comment on how dog friendly we are. Will these people go somewhere else if these restrictions come into force. I feel more prosecutions dog fouling would help.
