Stop the IOW council bringing in the ban of dogs in public spaces

This is crazy. The Island is well known for its friendly acceptance of dogs in public places. The Island struggles enough with its 6-8 month economy. You will be wiping out a whole raft of visitors especially in the Winter month’s. Leave things as they are it works very well.

Keep the island dog friendly. Putting more restriction on where we can take our dogs will only hurt the island.

I am not a dog owner. But!!!Being dog friendly is an attraction on this Island. We should welcome responsible dog owners.

26% of the adult UK population are dog owners. By far the majority of whom are responsible and pick up after their dogs. Tourism on the island is its main economy and dog walkers provide year round business, unlike the 'bucket & spade' brigade. Have you seen the amount of litter (mainly plastic) that is left in our parks and beaches? That's not the dog walking public. Take a look at the rubbish left in Church Litten by the library...are you going to ban the groups of 'young people' responsible for this as well as dog owners? Certain groups of tourists leave a lot of rubbish about spoiling the enjoyment of others and causing untold damage to the environment. Dog owners, as a group, are mostly protectors of the environment and not only pick up 'poo' but collect rubbish on their walks left by others. We need to be a dog friendly island - not just family friendly. Put resources into fining the minority who do not pick up rather than 'bans' which penalise the majority.

If you ban dogs from these places tourists will stay away in droves. The Island is a holiday attraction for all families, dogs are an essential part of the family. The Island is well known for its love of dogs, children and this brings families over here. The Island needs the income from families on holiday.

UK staycations are often the only option for dog owners. The IOW is the perfect dog friendly destination as it combines a real UK getaway with excellent facilities for pet owners, including lots of dog friendly cottages to rent. Now you want to deliberately lose that significant piece of tourism revenue? Not to mention make local dog owners lives a misery? How can you be so short sighted? If it’s dog fouling you’re concerned about then impose stricter fines and patrols, don’t drive people away back to Purbeck, Dorset, Devon and beyond.

If all dogs had responsible owners there would be no need for this petition!

As a tourist, dogs being allowed on beaches is a key factor to me visiting the Isle of Wight

It's virtually the opposite of what the island is about!!

The most ridiculous idea that I have ever heard of! If the council would focus on stopping over development and ensuring we had adequate infrastructure, road maintenance and a working floating bridge we may be a little more tolerant of some of there other stupid ideas!

As long as they clear up after their dogs, it's not a problem at all.

Its not just dogs you are banning, it’s the people who keep active by going out with them. I’m disappointed my local park will now be ‘on the lead’ may as well be a ban if dogs can’t run. Dogs don’t leave rubbish like a lot of humans, they ore the one littering our public spaces.

The most amazing thing I find here, is how dogs are welcome pretty much everywhere, it brings tourism to the island and therefore income. It's not a smart move to go ahead with this law.

Just ridiculous, the Isle of Wight is known as a dog friendly place in the dog world, so many tourists would stop coming if this were to happen
