Stop the IOW council bringing in the ban of dogs in public spaces

This is absolute madness of the council to ban dogs from beaches all year round. Tourists with dogs and there are many that visit the island will not come.

Dog-free beaches are sensible - but we already have many of these. Dog owners have as much right to use a beach as other people.

If it hadn't been October I would have thought this was an April fools joke . Utterly ridiculous idea .

This is a ridiculously shameful and wholly unreasonable suggestion. Quite apart from losing tourism it will cause great distress to those of us who need to take our dogs locally due to mobility and other issues. We are unofficial wardens of the beach & cemetery, reporting back antisocial behaviour etc which would otherwise go unseen. Why judge the rest of us who always clear up to those who will never bother whatever penalties. Driving people and their dogs from parks, cemeteries and beaches will just mean more fouling of the pavements. There is never anyone available to report this to (possibly only one dog warden for the island anyway!) & by the time anyone ever bothered turning up the inconsiderate person would be gone. It’s not the dogs fault - they can’t pick it up - that’s what the human is for! I made a poster saying inconsiderate owners give good dogs a bad name! Believe me from what I see daily people are often worse discarding needles, litter, glass & plastic and worse. I know as I regularly take a litter picker on dog walks to clear the streets as people have so little respect for their area.. Parks, beaches & cemeteries are public places to be enjoyed by the public.

Dogs need freedom too. Its not just our earth. Dont ban dogs from running free.

This is so un fair and one sided. this will put even more pepol of coming to the island. Traid has dropped as it is. This has always been a dog friendly place.

I agree with the comments made by Amber Taylor-Wilcox.

We visit the IOW. every year with our dogs and marvel how dog friendly it is... if this goes ahead us and surely lots of other visitors will think twice about coming..

Most dog owners are responsible and we carry our poo bags to show we clean up after our dogs. Don’t penalise the masses because of the few. Very short sighted

Ridiculous idea. Will drive away a lot of tourism. People are the problem. And what about cats? I have red squirrels in my garden and cats try to hunt the young ones, as well a leaving faeces all over the garden. Yet there is no restrictions on cats.

What a stupid idea

The dog walkers keep businesses going during the winter.

This council has shown its self to be completely inept and doesn't understand how our island works. It is about time we showed them that we will not stand for their nonsense any longer.

Really??? For those who have them, dogs are family members. When you restrict dogs, you restrict families. We take our dogs everywere, incl family walks to the cemetary to all be together; days on the beach; country shows; days out; family dinners. We moved off the island recently and love how pet friendly the mainland is. It will be another nail in the island's coffin to be dog unfriendly!
