Stop the IOW council bringing in the ban of dogs in public spaces

Dogs on the beach are not a nuisance - we are in Seaview and so walk on Seagrove bay and the Duver. I support dogs being allowed on those beaches - I the islandcrelies on tourism and they won’t come if they can’t walk their dogs at the seaside!

I have two married children with dogs and children. They come to stay in Seaview on a regular basis and one of the key pleasures is taking the children and dogs onto the beach. This ludicrous proposition is only likely to make their visits less regular and will also damage our fragile tourist business

It would be a great shame if this went through. As a dog owner who is conscientious about my dog, at peak times especially, it would be a real disappointment. Please reconsider!

Ridiculous and divisive.

Parks are a very good place to exercise your dog. What use is a park if you cannot throw a ball for your dog there?

Please let's shorten the time dogs are already banned from beeches to July and August only..

It would be mean spirited for the Council to stop the bereaved from being accompanied by their dogs when visiting graves of relatives. The dog ban proposed for many cemeteries is wholly unreasonable and unacceptable. The proposed ban for dogs on many IOW beaches in unreasonable and unacceptable, especially, Cowes, Seagrove Bay, and Springvale in Seaview. Dog owners of all ages enjoy the freedom to walk their dogs on these these beaches without causing concern to other beach users. In the absence of compelling evidence of persistent incidents where reasonable & sensible users of these beaches have been made to feel unsafe by the presence of dogs, a dog ban is unwarranted and a disproportionate response to a non-existent problem.

A further update- Our councillor Nettlestone and Seaview - Reg Barry has been helpful in updating me. Today he emailed with this message Regarding the proposed ‘17/19 Public Spaces Protection Orders Consultation’ I have learnt that you can today that you can make representations before the decision to go out to consultation is made by contacting [email protected]. All representations must be sent to this address or they may not be considered as part of the decision-making process. The deadline for representations to be submitted is 5pm today (Thursday, 31 October 2019).

Banning dogs from local public spaces will prevent dog owners from sharing many of our beautiful spaces. For lonely people walking their dog in a local green space, e.g. Northwood Cemetery, may be the only time they find someone to speak to each day. Please think again.

This is an assault to older lonely residents who enjoy the benefits of exercise and companionship with their dogs

Please don't ban dogs from public spaces on the Isle of Wight

I strongly agree with this petition. The focus should be on dogs fouling and the owners not picking up the foul. Rather than the 99% of good dog owners.

Just enforce the restrictions of previous regulations. Unreasonable new regulations could result in dogs being left in hot cars especially when visitors are on holiday on the Island.

Recently had short break in St Helens - if dogs not permitted on Duver we will holiday on the mainland next time.

Absolutely absurd idea! Responsible dog owners are not the issue - and it's is those that fall outside of this category that will just carry on ignoring the rules anyway, so why bother trying to enforce this? Don't penalise the masses because of an ignorant few. Apart from the obvious (where would dog walkers exercise their dogs) the all-year-round trade and tourism benefits to the island would be lost! If more dog waste bins were provided (in accessible and sensible locations) you will probably find more people are inclined to actually use them...

One of the reasons we love the Isle of Wight is the long doggy walks on its beautiful beaches

Talk about the council shooting themselves in the foot! Most dog owners are responsible and keep beach cafes alive on the winter. This will also have a huge impact on the winter tourist trade, many of whom come here with their dogs. Bet Visit IW aren’t happy either!

This must not happen - another ludicrous plan by our totally inept council - fix the East Cowes chain ferry before attacking dog walkers !!
