It's been a few years since Law School, but when I think about my experience there, Steve and Hello My Friend Cafe come to mind quickly. Steve is such a genuine, caring, and generous person. I am disappointed that the University would make this kind of decision on such short notice without considering the impact the decision has on not just Steve, but also the numerous faculty, students, and alumni. U of A, please reconsider!!!!

Very surprised and disappointed. Institutions such as this need to be protected.

This is an unfortunate situation, and one that seems to overlook that Hello My Friend and Steve are integral parts of the law school experience at the U of A. For me, chai lattes and chats with Steve formed one of three foundational aspects of my law school career. It was also one of the few unpretentious places in law school where staff, faculty, and law students of all years would mingle. A major part of that was Steve's personality and genuineness shining through. This is a decision I cannot support and reflects poorly on the University. As others have stated, I will not consider making donations as an alumni if this plan proceeds.

I can honestly say I may not have made it through law school, at least not without an episode or two of full on mental collapse, without Steve's wonderful attitude and delicious coffee (see the law guy article from 2009ish where I think I said the same thing). Anyhow, to lose Steve would be a serious disservice to all law students and the university in general.

This is a terrible decision. I will not be making donations as an alumni if this plan proceeds.

It is obvious that Steve and this place have positively impacted students and I am determined to check it out before I graduate this year!

Steve and his business have supported the Arts faculty and student work in more ways than can be listed. Leave him there and benefit from the student and faculty live that his business and energy brings to the school

Steve is an institution. He should remain. Does the mighty dollar always have to win?

What a shame to lose a locally-run business at the U. I hope that the university changes its mind on this matter.

The Hello My Friend Cafe and its proprietor Steve have become important to the life of this Faculty. We need them to stay, and continue to be part of what gives this place its character.

From the majority of my courses and from UAlberta sustainability, there is always the promotion to support local businesses. Why is UAlberta not renewing this contract? They can put in a Panda Express but they can't renew a local hardworking man's contract? That doesn't make sense. I have heard great things from this place and I think it's not apart of the UAlberta community and it gives this community something unique.

This place is part of our UofA community. Leave it to perpetuate it's important place on campus life.

we need to support small businesses like this one that actually care about their patrons. This is rare, special and worth protecting. whoever decided to pull the plug on this business should be ashamed.
