The pandemic and online schooling has made it so difficult to learn, and TMS’ approach to assessments have not changed like the other schools. We are asking that TMS changes the marking criteria such that our exam grades are unable to bring our current averages down, but instead could bring us up if we perform above our standard performance. We truly want to be transparent and open about our struggles and ask that this change is implemented so that there is some fairness and we can not only level the playing field, but be assessed fairly with regards to other schools.
Under these uncertain times, it is important to acknowledge the stress and pressure that has been imposed on TMS students. I have been a witness to the difficulties of online learning. I am disappointed to learn that TMS has neglected to take proper action. A recent article published by CBC news stressed the importance of maintaining the mental health and wellbeing of Ontario students during these harsh times. TMS students have continuously been at a disadvantage. The York Region district school board and IB Schools in Ontario have both cancelled December exams for all high schools. We must ensure that there is equal opportunity for all students in Ontario.
