TMCC: Increase Native American Preference Points In The Hiring Of The President

We have educated people qualified at home. Our main goal in education to get our people educated to come work at home. Utilize our people who are willing and qualified

I believe the president should be Native American, just not necessarily from here. Culture and traditions are critical to our community. As well as a person who is practicing these traditions. If you don't receive the seven teachings, I don't believe you can help our community.

What do these non-natives know about our people or culture. If there are people from the rex qualified then they should be hired.

We encourage our younger generation to get educated beyond HS, telling them they we’ll be rewarded, with a better lifestyle. If you have educated yourself and meet the qualifications for a local position, you should have first preference, keep the dollars local, it is good for our local economy!!

Agreed that an Indigenous person should be hired to head an indigenous institution

It is imperative that the President of TMCC be a tribal member.

Would like to see one of our own native peoples to become president of TMCC

We NEED a President for TMCC that is from our community and someone who knows our ways. We have people with the qualifications to do so. I don't understand why we would give a non Native American person the position before our own people who are capable of doing the job.

I highly recommend this because we have so much highly educated & qualified Native Americans here on our reservation!

Our greatest resource at Turtle Mountain Has always been our depth of talented, educated members, who have worked very hard getting and maintaining their credentials. I support the hiring of This very important position with our own local talent and resources.

Indian preference should definitely be considered & also feel additional reference should be given to tribal members. Finally, it is my opinion that staff & especially faculty should play a major role in recommending a well qualified President as they possess greater knowledge & expertise as to the duties & responsibilities of this important leadership position. They know best!!

If we have qualified members, they deserve the position, thats what most of our people educate for.. to help our community!

I would go further to add not only Native American preference, but also that it must be a tribal member who possesses all of the qualifications required.

The Turtle Mountain Chippewa Tribe should adhere to its policy of Indian Preference when selecting and screening applicants for positions at the tribe as well. Its not important at any tribal governed entity.

The President of TMCC should be a tribal member. There are some very good comments that show our people understand why this is important. If the Board of Directors should decide to change their previous selection, it is up to them to work with the accrediting agency to do it in such a way that it does not have a negative impact on the college. That is one of the responsibilities of the Board. The college cannot afford to lose accreditation over this, but they also have an obligation to answer to the people.

We must hire from within our own community and at least be a Native American for President at TMCC.
